Atmosphere

There is a wonderful sense of place and season , so evocative that I felt I was actually there . The story and the characters are all intriguing and vivid but I enjoyed the description best. A mystery that also has something to say

Another great listen.

I’d love to see a TV series made out of these fab characters. Suffolk accent on this one decidedly dodgy, but it is tricky! Great weaving of history, legend and fiction. Delighted to see Sybil Andrews popping up.

The gripping story

The actor reading this book was outstanding. She brought the characters to life in such a brilliant way. The whole story was beautifully conceived, brilliantly researched and riveting throughout.

I couldn't put it down

I enjoyed this book very much and I found the story within the story fascinating. I couldn't stop listening, but I wanted the book to last forever. The narration was excellent and it greatly enhanced the overall experience. I have read all the books in this series and I am looking forward to the publication of the next book.

Where was the Suffolk accent?

Fascinating twist on a well known story. However the local accent was not from Suffolk.

Brilliant language and storytelling

This is my first Upson book and I listened to some of the historic passages again and again as there are proper jewels in expression and setting. Great story too.

Great but not perfect.

What made the experience of listening to The Death of Lucy Kyte the most enjoyable?

Not as good as Upsons previous Tey novels but a good one nevertheless. I like the long listen and the world building descriptions. This mystery may not be as fast paced or as exciting as the previous ones and it certainly feels contrived at times but it is still much better than a lot of the offerings around at the moment.

How would you have changed the story to make it more enjoyable?

Maybe more Archie. Continuing the Marta theme is a mistake as it didn't go down very well with Tey's family or fans as it isn't base on any kind of evidence. Can feel like the novel is descending into sentimentality at times.

What does Sandra Duncan bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you had only read the book?

Great Narrator, brings warmth and feeling to the characters.

Engrossing.

Such believable characters portrayed in this compelling book. I fortunately still have a few more Nicola Upson books to listen to but then I shall feel rather bereft.
