About this listen

Brains, guts, and ruthless ambition should be enough for a woman to come out on top in any fight. Except when the battle is over love, all bets are off. Cain Casey was groomed from birth to take the reins of the Casey family enterprises, which just happens to be one of the major crime organizations in New Orleans. Surviving by never turning away from a fight and knowing how to win at all costs, Cain is as careful with her heart as she is with her business - until she meets Emma Verde. The farm girl from Wisconsin puts a hit out on Cain's heart and leads her down a dangerous road filled with great joy and devastating sorrow. The Devil Inside is the story of unexpected passion, a shattering betrayal, and the challenge of love put to the test. First in the Cain Casey Saga.

This is a favourite of mine

I listened to listened to this when I first purchased it, enjoyed it so much I listened again, because I really loved the story and the characters. However I don't like the narrators harsh voice and weird impressions, so would prefer it to be narrated by someone else, though this is something I think should be available on Audible, other AudioBook sites offer the same book but are read by a several people so that you can choose a favourite, something I like to do, but with Audible, it seems to be just the one option at the moment, so if you are unhappy with the narration, only a really good book can survive. THIS is a realy GOOD book! And am about to listen again because the second book has just been released, so I need to refresh my memory, end this and move on to the first sequel. Ali Vali has said she intends to write a series in this story, the first books ending has quite the cliffhanger, leaving soo many loose ends and different journeys these characters have open to travel, left completely open to hopes and speculation, it has been a while since this book was fitst available, it's really nice to have your Trilogies or series lined up. Like Philip Pullmans Dark Materials Trilogy, halfway through the first I ordered the next two. As with Chronicles of Ancient Darkness ~a 6 book series. I hope this series reaches many sequels. And despite not being the greatest narrator, you'll soon be absorbed in this story, if you ever liked the GodFather, this is the next best thing...imagine Katherine Moenneg as Derby.....

A good story spoiled by the wrong voice

I found the flashbacks annoying just like cains egomania but what made it virtually impossible to enjoy was the narrators voice. No attempt at a soft southern accent, no differentiation between characters. I am gutted that the performer ruined it for me. I'll read the books in future

Love the Devil Series

I read this book a number of years ago and the story always stayed with me. So this time I decided to try listening to it.

I agree with a previous review - the narrator has the wrong voice for the genre. I found her voice to be too shrill and tight - more New Yorker when it should have been a low Southern drawl.
