Summary

The cult classic that can still change your life…

Let the dice decide!

When a bored psychologist hands over all of his decisions to chance, making choices on the roll of a die, he transforms his life – and the world.

Because when you follow the dice, anything can happen.

Entertaining, shocking, funny, and frightening – fifty years after its first publication, THE DICE MAN remains one of the most influential and subversive cult novels of all time.

It’s a novel, it’s not an autobiography

Overall it’s an interesting novel based around a wacky idea. I liked it but there are some parts that are quite dark and distasteful.

Well read…but!

Very well read, which even though it made this jump along to start off with, with a story/ concept that just doesn’t really advance it still became a bit of slog to finish. Still pleased I listened though.

Determination and dice

A slog to finish, seemed unnecessarily long, took over two hours before the mention of the dice. Weird obsession with rape and making it seem like it’s acceptable

Long rambling nonsense

A good premise and starts ok, with an interesting philosophy. But it’s just an endless excuse of raping and bonking for the next 15hours of audio. It’s whimsy leaves me left with the feeling the concept is wasted. And it’s soooo long

awful

This book tries to be clever, but is overly crude and filled with sexual violence

Why doesn't it stop after two hours?

This book is interesting up to a point and then you just wish it would finish, it drags on and on.

Dull

Looked forward to listening to this after enjoying the book around 30 years ago. Perhaps I'm older and wiser but this book grates now. Frequent psycho-babble with repeated references to Freud and misogynist in tone. Stereotypical representations of psychiatry. Overall I'm struck by the fact that it hasn't aged well at all.

Empty. Pointless.

Emptiness filled this story. Some interesting bits. would not recommend, nor ever read again. Manic, unpleasant. Pointless overall.
