Summary

The First Mistake is the stunning second novel from The Other Woman author Sandie Jones, who delivers twist after heart-stopping twist, in this addictively listenable domestic suspense about a wife, her husband, and her best friend.

Two women. Best friends.

Through the ups and downs of life, from celebrating and nights out to comforting each other through divorce and death, Alice and Beth know that together they can survive anything. That they trust each other implicitly.

When Alice’s husband, Nathan, starts going on more and more business trips, Alice starts to suspect he is having an affair, and the first person that she turns to is Beth, asking for her help in finding out the truth.

Because if Beth knew something about Nathan, she’d tell Alice - wouldn’t she?

After all that’s what best friends do....

Twists and turns throughout. Loved it!

I often hear of books with twists and turns throughout but don’t actually experience this. In this book though there truly are. Loved it !!

Far-fetched but enjoyable

I enjoyed this book because I was looking for something easy and engaging to distract me without dark or upsetting themes. I was hooked despite feeling that the plot wasn't credible. Recommended if you aren't looking for anything too deep.

Brilliant!!

This was a great read, lots of twists in the tale. Just when I thought I knew what was happening and what the outcome was going to be, something happened to disprove me! I wasn't expecting the final outcome at all. It had me at the end of my seat a few times!! I thoroughly enjoyed listening to this book. I have read her other book, and that was excellent too.
All in all, it was a very cleverly written book and it would make a great TV serial.
The narration was very good although, seeing as part of the book was Alices tale, and part was Beths tale, I think 2 narrators should have been used, one for each female.
Recommended!!

A thoroughly good book

Twists and turns around every corner. Who should you sympathise or empathise with? Will the truth ought?
I will definitely chose another book by this author and likewise the performer. Will you?

Captivating with an unexpected twist

This is the second of Sandie Jones' books that I have listened to and as an up and coming fiction writer, she doesn't disappoint and has plenty more to give!

It would be difficult to review the book for its content without giving the plot away, but I can safely say she has entirely grasped the emotional turmoil of a bad relationship, having your world turned upside down and taking back control. The story flowed at a good pace and you really felt for each of the characters as their lives unfolded from the past into the present. Sandie has great delivery, emotional understanding and a knack of twisting a story when you least expect it.

I'll be honest and say that this isn't my usual genre of book, but her first one "The Other Woman" was so good, I couldn't resist to see what else she had to offer, I was entirely entertained for the whole 9 hours. If I could have given it more stars I would have.

In terms of performance, Nathalie Buscombe does really well, albeit that some of the male characters tended to sound a bit similar, but overall, it didn't detract from the listening and it was easy enough to follow who was who.

Lost weekend!

I was delighted to discover the latest book by Sandie Jones, having really enjoyed her first novel. I listened to it via the Audible app and seem to have lost an entire weekend, listening to it at every available opportunity. I thoroughly enjoyed it, working out a few of the twists but certainly not all of them. I really hope Sandie is already working on novel number three!

More twists than a corkscrew.

Fantastic read, Sandie Jones has a great career ahead of her. The story is more twisty turny than a twisty turny thing, it kept me guessing to the end. Highly recommend.

Not for me

I only got to chapter two and couldn't listen to the narrator anymore. I didn't get into the story, so I can't comment on that
