About this listen
Having witnessed the terrible massacre of Imperial forces on Isstvan III, Death Guard Captain Garro seizes a ship and sets a course for Terra to warn the Emperor of Horus' treachery.
But when the fleeing Eisenstein is damaged by enemy fire, it becomes stranded in the warp - the realm of the Dark Powers. Can Garro and his men survive the depredations of Chaos and get his warning to the Emperor before Horus' plans reach fruition?

Best book of the series so far
Easily the most entertaining of the series, impossible to switch off, Garro is the man.

oh the twists and turns of heresy!!!
Garro's journey to inform the Emperor of Horus' betrayal continues on board the eisenstein, and he must do what would ultimately become his future role. travelling into darkness even worse than what happened on Istvaan, but ultimately finding his faith, and a further, new purpose. New faces appear, and old friends bond even further.
the heresy unfolds, and a new body of work is born.
The flight of the Eisenstein is simply delicious in its evolution of the events at Istvaan, and Garro's escape with his retinue of the 70, a true lunar wolf and the assortment of more human bedfellows. seeing the decay of Mortarions embracing of chaos turn those he served shoulder to shoulder into abominations of evil, and the loss of a beloved brother to its machinations, near break him. lesser astartes would have, and indeed do falter under such pressures. I fully devoured this story of the heresy with such eagerness to find out Garro's fate, fully expecting him to fail, and was utterly satisfied with his final scenes. you could say nobody would expect it... in a manner of speaking. a most excellent chapter in the saga that is the Horus Heresy.

Unpredictable
I hate reading/listening to books and having them follow the same tried and tested good prevails over evil in the end motif. Being based in the Grimdark future the Horus heresy series sheds those restraints and creates a truly unpredictable scene re-instating the unpredictable aspect of a story I personally really enjoy.
Jonathan Keeble also adds such emotion to all characters it's almost impossible not to be immersed in the action and emotion of the scenes.

The setup to Nathaniel Garros role in the future
Good to see a different angle on events but move the Heresey storyline forwards.
