About this listen

A lonely princess.

A flying teen.

A kidnapped girl who only remembers what happens at night.

Seventeen-year-old Princess Nora is a frost eater who creates magical ice. Her royal life is luxurious but stifling.

Krey West has a rare magical talent: when he eats feathers, he can fly. His one goal is to find his missing girlfriend, Zeisha. He thinks someone in power abducted her.

Krey’s daring feats of magic earn him an invitation to the palace. Craving adventure and friendship, Nora offers to help him find Zeisha. He’s desperate enough to accept - though he hates the monarchy.

The truth is more terrible than they could imagine.

Every night, Zeisha wakes in a dark room full of sleeping people, unable to remember what she did in the light. Her dreams provide violent glimpses into her forgotten days.

If Krey and Nora can’t save her, Zeisha may lose herself forever.

Readers describe this post-apocalyptic fantasy novel as “magic-packed” with “action, romance, and intrigue” that’ll “pull you right into the pages.”

Great story

I really enjoyed the story, the characters, the world that was created. The title alone was super intriguing and I had to listen to it. It slowed down too much for me in some places but was still a good listen. I liked the narrator.

For lovers of YA fantasy

This is a review of the audio book version and the content of it is similar to the one I wrote for the kindle version.
One aspect of the book I really loved was a vignette at the beginning of each chapter in the form of an excerpt from the diary of Liri Abrios. She is a similarly aged girl from the first generation after an apocalyptic event, which formed the world and society Nora lives in. It is a novel and interesting way to get an insight into the history of the planet Anyari, where the story takes place.
There is this unique and fascinating magic system. People who possess magic abilities have to eat a particular fuel, which they catalyse to create the effect, so for instance there is the frost (ice) eater who can then form ice projectiles or shapes; or the magician who eats feathers to be able to fly.
The characters Nora and Krey are both magic eaters. Princess Nora is a frost eater or ice lyster as they are formally called. Krey is an ice lyster and feather lyster.

Krey is trying to find his missing girlfriend Zeisha, and suspects the monarchy to be involved in her disappearance. Presented with the opportunity to befriend the lonely, bored princess Nora he decides to use her to get into the palace. Nora sees the chance of adventure and becomes his willing accomplice. They involve Ovrun, the handsome palace guard. Ovrun is head over heels in love with Nora and will do anything for her. Nora fancies hunky Ovrun and despite knowing nothing can come from it starts to fall for him.
The very different teens form an alliance that eventually leads to a deep friendship and trust in each other.
They discover Zeisha is not the only person who has gone missing, and they all have something in common: they are all have a magical talent.
Nora and her friends uncover a far more sinister plot and it is up to them to save the future of the kingdom and its people.

This is the first book of the Magic Eaters Trilogy and any fan of YA fiction will love it.

Carol Beth Anderson narrates the book herself, she has and a very pleasant voice and clear and concise pronunciation.

I received this book in audio book format from the author and am leaving this review of my own volition.

A very interesting magic system

Princess Nora is lonely and bored with her restrictive life in the palace. So when she sees an opportunity for a possible friendship she grabs at it, setting off a chain of events that she never could have imagined.
The book is set in a world colonised by humans and takes place some time after devastating destruction left only 1 in every 1000 people alive. A mysterious stone seems to be the cause of the death but may also have created the magic in people too.
There was a very interesting and unusual magic system, where those who have a talent need to eat a certain type of fuel for their powers. For example feathers so they can fly.
I loved reading about a friendship between a girl and a boy that, for once, didn't have to turn romantic. Most books are so predictable with the romance. I'm looking forward to book 2.
I enjoyed the narration which is done by the author herself.

Overall thoroughly enjoyable

I received a free audio copy of this book directly from the author for an honest review.

This book is certainly filled with plenty of action, suspense, magic and friendship. It all winds together in an intricate and fantastical story that keeps you listening/reading. I really liked that Nora and Kray to start with aren’t these perfectly loveable characters they’re still young after all but through their time together they grow and you watch their friendship blossom. The plot is truly interesting and the fact that their magic is only available to them when it is fuelled is a new concept. My one downside to this is the pacing to the story. Sometimes it feels like it’s going a bit slowly and not a lot was going on, other times weeks have gone past and I don’t know where the time has gone which was quite frustrating so lost a star for this unfortunately. Overall though I have thoroughly enjoyed this book and definitely worth anyone giving it a go!

Perfect in every possible way

The cover, the characters, the world and all the mystery surrounding it, the weird magic powers. They all sucked me in and I couldn’t stop listening.
I had waited to start this book because it seemed too long. After I finished it, I was sad it had to end and I’m now just waiting for the next one to come out.

Wow!

I really liked the storyline. It had a few twists and turns that caught me off guard which was super nice! I love when the story is a little less predictable. Great author and obviously it's the best to hear the audio in the author's voice with the inflections intended. There is swearing in the book, so if you avoid that usually, beware. Overall, really great book!

Excellent World Building!

The reader is fully engaged from the get go. The author's ability to ensure the reader can envisage this world without having to struggle is spot on! In a new world where humanity has had to start all over from scratch, this story is very well written. As an audible the author, herself, reads the story and holds the listener's attention with ease. This trilogy is going to be a great one! A fantasy that keeps the reader turning pages and the listener holding on for more! First story down and well done!

Great story

So to start off, if you really want to know what the book is about, the description does such a good job to tell you, that you really dont need to know much more.

The author was the narrator, which isn't something that happens too often. The author being the narrator can be a good thing cause they can read it in the way they wanted it to be portrayed, but it can also be a bad thing cause they might be trying too hard to get certain points across too much that it takes from certain scenes. Thankfully this didnt seem to be the case this time. Though I will say most voices seemed to be in the same tones, and it was hard to follow at times to know if someone was talking or not.

There was lots of information in the book, Lots of descriptions which make some scenes run a but longer but it still went great.

I enjoyed listening to the book, I just wish that there was different tones/voices for the characters to make them more distinguished.

I received a free review copy of this book and am voluntarily leaving am honest review.

Interesting Magic

This was a great book. I truly enjoyed it. The magic in this book was very interesting. I really loved the character development. I also enjoyed knowing what was going on with the side characters as well as the MCs. Can't wait to see the story continue.
