The last surviving member this group, Krystyna Chiger, shares one of the most intimate, harrowing, and ultimately triumphant tales of survival to emerge from the Holocaust. The Girl in the Green Sweater is Chiger's harrowing first-person account of the 14 months she spent with her family in the fetid, underground sewers of Lvov.
The Girl in the Green Sweater is also the story of Leopold Socha, the group's unlikely savior. A Polish Catholic and former thief, Socha risked his life to help Chiger's underground family survive, bringing them food, medicine, and supplies. nothing stood out, just a sad existence for these strong minded people
it was an easy listen, it's unimaginable to have to live in a sewer but if the other choice is death you can understand why they chose this option of survival.

interesting but a hard listen
it may be that itvwas written from a child's perspective however was not an easy book to listen to. Not necessarily from the viewpoint of the Holocaust, but from the plodding sometimes repetitive narrative.
Definitely better books to listen to on this subject.

AI sounding narration ruins it
I’m sure the story is fascinating and I persevered but gave up three times; the narration is just too difficult on the ear. It sounds like a tik tok ai voice.

Lack of empathy on the narrator's voice
Would love to get to the end of the book but the narrator's voice puts me off. Always happy and cheerful when describing moments of such violence and tragedy.
The story seems interesting and worth to know about but maybe on a book to read not to listen to.

A light through darkness
A powerful book about the persecution of Jews in WW2, which we must never forget even as times move on
The power of the human spirit is never more evident in the resilience shown by so many during war.
Also to those brave people who stood up and helped those suffering, many risking their own lives to do so.
I note there is a criticism of the narrator sounding AI,
Personally I did not think this. However, I did find that she seemed to narrate with a permanent grin on her face, which given this nature and subject matter of the book a little bit odd.

Amazing story of Endurance
Couldn't turn this story off. Remarkable account of survival against the odds. Krystyna, her "underground family" and those that helped them survive are truly inspiring. A story of endurance that everyone can take something from.

Pretty unique story
I have never heard this story before and amazing someone could live like this for so long, it is a bit slow in parts but there is a lot of details
