Summary

Please note: This series contains mature themes and listener discretion is advised.

In 1984, Detective Eric O'Malley investigated the bizarre deaths of a young couple, their bodies found naked by the side of a creek in Sydney's northern suburbs. Shortly before their demise, O'Malley learned, the pair had attended a swingers' party.

The case was barely open before it was deemed an accident. But O'Malley knew it was murder. He just couldn't prove it.

Thirty-five years later, O'Malley is found dead in his flat in what looks like a drug overdose. But his son James knows something's amiss. His dad was close to solving that case after all these years. And someone else knew it.

To track down his father's killer, James must find the men and women who were there on the fateful night when that young couple died. This was the night of 'The Goodbye Party' - and uncovering its secrets will lead James down a dark path, filled with horrific twists and turns.

Inspired by Sydney’s real-life Bogle-Chandler case, playwright Louis Nowra (writer of Australian classics Cosi, Radiance and The Golden Age) creates an enthralling multicast audio drama, featuring an exceptional cast including Ben Oxenbould (Deep Water, Wolf Creek), Steve Bisley (Water Rats, Mad Max), and Aaron Pedersen (Mystery Road, Jack Irish).

Good character building

I like the way it was presented and the characters were interesting. The background music and sound effects added a lot to the actual story.
Good listen for in your car!

ENJOYABLE AUSSIE YARN

Really enjoyed this Aussie yarn, totally out of my usual genre but it was a freebie. Once I started I could not stop from start to finish, I wanted to know who was responsible, why and how it would end. There are some crazy sleazy characters who are obsessed which I did not like, but you go for the main character who makes all of this well worth the listen.

Slow burner

At the beginning I wondered if I would finish this book, it seemed too far fetched for my liking, but I’m so glad I stuck with it.
The writer weaves her magic slowly and cleverly and before you know it you are drawn in and invested in the characters and The twists and turns of the story!
The ending left me with much food for thought about what might have been.

Wow! Believe the majority 5 star ratings! Amateur sleuths will love this!

It’s free but I didn’t want to waste my time and the poor star ratings (which I now find ridiculous) put me off but I went with the majority of excellent reviews and do not regret it. If you love crime fiction then you’ll love this. The sound effects brought it to life and I was there in every room, walking down every street and feeling the Australian heat alongside all the characters. As an amateur sleuth 😎 I picked up on one thing that was never mentioned again until the end so I’m now awarding myself the promotion of amateur detective 😂. Absolutely loved the play and the last ten minutes gave my Fitbit heart rate monitor a serious work out. Thank you! Will definitely be reading more from this author.

Really irritating format

The story and performance were good. The book was segmented into different chapters, so as each time you wanted to go to the next chapter, you had to download a new book. The chapters weren’t in order so not easy to find. This interrupted the pleasure of an audiobook and for me was most irritating If Audible produce books like this in the future, they will not be for me.
