About this listen
Welcome to the hotel where nobody checks out. When a desk clerk welcomes a group of tourists into his mysterious and crumbling hotel, the last thing he expects is that a lone girl on his tour may hold the power to unravel the hidden mystery that has lain for untold centuries within the structure’s walls. The Grand Hotel is a horror novel by esteemed best-selling author Scott Kenemore (Zombie, Ohio) that takes the reader on a thrilling ride through an interconnected series of stories narrated by the desk clerk and the residents of the hotel itself. And while it is not known whether or not the desk clerk is actually the devil incarnate, it is strange that so many visitors who come for a tour of the hotel have a way of never leaving. As the narrator takes you deeper and deeper into the heart of the hotel, secrets that have been hiding for aeons begin to show themselves. Although he is quite prepared for this experience, there is some question as to whether or not the rest of the world shares this readiness. Kenemore's incredible style and originality carry The Grand Hotel to places most people only see in their nightmares. And while we don’t know all of the secrets that lie within the Grand Hotel, we know that the person who does hold that knowledge puts fear into the narrator himself - a thought that ought to terrify everyone.

I was sceptical going into this book but the layout of the overall story and the mini-stories within were quite enjoyable. Whenever a story would finish, I would look forward to the interaction between the concierge and the red-haired girl before meeting another guest with another story to tell.
Each mini-story has a different theme as well, with some being themed around demons and the occult while others are themed around ghosts and the paranormal and others around mythical creatures, all with an underlying sense of suspense and distress. I found the story/stories not too much either. As an avid horror reader, I sometimes find that the abundance of gore and imagery can be quite gratuitous at times and somewhat unnecessary but this book relied much more on the suspense of a situation rather than the grotesqueness of the scene.
In my opinion, I would really love to watch this as a movie or TV series (similar to the film Ghost Stories or The Twilight Zone)!
Would make a great movie/series!

Following the format of world war z, this book is a collection of short stories that are part of a larger story. It is a format I have always enjoyed whenever I run across it. Each story is good but ends too abruptly which was mildly frustrating, hence the missing star. This fault includes the main story which gave half an explanation of what was going on then BOOM, ending. Narration was spot on and the way the author encourages the reader to think is great. As Brandon Sanderson said "A story teller's job is not to tell you how to think, but to give you things to think about"
Marvelously Macabre

I really enjoyed……almost all of it. The book, if actually read would probably have been better and a page turner…….BUT.
Those accents 🤦♀️
If you can’t do them don’t bother, it really doesn’t change the story.
Samantha is not an unusual name nor unknown in America, but we don’t pronounce it “Sam-arn-tharr” that was as annoying as the Chef pronouncing “passageway” as “parsageway”.
The general narrating was top.
Almost brilliant…….almost

The story is like a bunch of short stories, all smooched together. But in a good way.
Some stories are better than others, I particularly liked the dancer's and the priest's stories but I was never bored.
I'm not fond of short stories but I can definitely see myself consuming more of them if served like this.
Surprisingly pleasant
