About this listen
February, 1982.
In a dingy Manhattan bar, where misery is served on tap, a stranger arrives with a pair of mysterious antique headphones.
For most who try them on, they unlock a world of wonder; for our protagonist, they unleash a world of horror.
Upon wearing these headphones, they become fused with his flesh, unable to be removed.
The voices of malevolent beings known only as, the Others, begin speaking to him through these headphones - their taunts and intentions getting more sinister with each passing moment.
A novelette by Steve McElhenny.
Headphones, only you can hear their screams.

Would make an excellent Twilight Zone episode
An intriguing tale told well by Steve and the narration fits the style perfectly. You feel like you're right there with the protagonist and the ending nicely wraps up the story. I received a free copy from the author and am happy to leave a positive review.

Horror done right
A gloriously ghoulish tale with classic 80's vibe thar showcases McElhenny's not just a writer of humorous fiction. The story feels like it crawled out of the pages of the cult comic "Scream!" and will certainly transport you back to the glory days of horror 40 years ago.
Benjamin Philip Hawkins masterful narration brings the prose to ghastly life. The sound quality is crystal clear and his character voices easily distinguishable.
Overall this was a superb listen and I rather hope to hear more McElhenny/Hawkins collaborations in the future

A Tale of terror straight from the crypt.
This was a great little short horror story that (as stylistically depicted on the wonderful cover) would have not been out of place in one of those Tales from the crypt horror comics or the portmanteau horror films of the seventies with several spooky shorts linked by a cast of well known film stars meeting unexpectedly on their way to hell. The dramatic device of using the headphones is simple, credible and easily visualised, The various main events take place over a period of a few days for the protagonist and are varied and thrilling. I had no problem in listening to this in one go. I would happily listen to it again and have no hesitation in recommending it a a good quick listen.
The Narrator provides a clear and steady pace throughout with a pleasant voice that reminded me of the actor Anthony Head.

Short but oh so sweet...
In usual style, I expected nothing less than a great listen by this author and am happy to say, it didn't dissapoint!
Although a short listen, it only adds to compliment this particular short story. The horrors and twists that unfold kept me listening intently for what happens next, the excellent writing keeps you engaged and the narration is fantastic!
Very twilight zone 'esque, and would love to see more of this style 👌

Horrible Headphones.
A great story for the dark nights from the pen of Steve McElhenny, It is very well written with a wealth of interesting characters. Once started make sure you have an hour and a half almost to spare as you won't want to put it down. Crazy in parts although in the horror genre Steve's sense of humour is definitely detectable. I loved it and will definitely be revisiting it at some point. Benjamin Philip Hawkins, a new narrator to me is superb and delivers the story well. Highly recommended. Well worth more than the 5 stars allowed.
I was kindly given a copy of the book by the author and leave this honest review voluntarily.
