About this listen

Brought to you by Puffin.

The spell-binding world-building of Philip Pullman and Katherine Rundell with the page-turning kid appeal of Skandar and the Unicorn Thief.

‘Magic forged at Midsommer is the strongest and truest of all magic – both fair and foul.’

When Benjamiah discovers a strange fragment of witchstone, he find himself transported to the labyrinthine streets of Wreathenwold - a world of spectacular adventure and impossible magic.

Along with his friends Elizabella Cotton, Mea and Silas the mapmaker, Benjamiah embarks on a dangerous quest involving a strange collection of fairytales - The Book of Barely Believable Stories. The gang must undertake a series of magical trials to save the missing children of Wreathenwold, before Midsommer ends and they are lost forever . . .

Jordan Lees has created a magical world in Wreathenwold. The story once again dark but at the same time comforting. The first book was a masterpiece, but this isn’t far behind. Can’t wait for the third.

Nathaniel Curtis does mostly a great job, even though a couple of the voices were a bit much.
