Summary

Wales, 1093.

The warm, comfortable family life of young Nesta, daughter of Prince Rhys of Deheubarth, is destroyed when her father is killed and she is taken hostage. Her honour is further tarnished when she is taken as an unwilling concubine by King William's ruthless younger brother Henry, who later ascends the throne under suspicious circumstances.

But it is Nesta's marriage that will really change the course of her life. Gerald FitzWalter, an ambitious young knight, is rewarded for his unwavering loyalty to his new King with Nesta's hand. He is delighted, having always admired her from afar, but Nesta's only comfort is her return to her beloved Wales. There, she cannot help but be tempted by the handsome, charismatic and dangerous son of the Welsh prince, Owain. When he offers her the chance to join him in his plan to overthrow Norman rule she must choose between duty and desire . . .

From the award-winning and bestselling author comes the heartbreaking tale of a woman trying to survive in a man's world - a world where the men who would protect her are dead and banished.

The really bad pronunciation of Welsh names and places.

Beautifully written book. BUT the dreadful pronouniation of Welsh names and places really destroyed the pleasure of this audible book. Please take the time to teach the person who reads this book to learn the correct pronunciation, surely this should have been done. As a Welsh person this really grated and spilt my enjoyment of the book.

A Chadwick Jewel.

As usual, Elizabeth Chadwick ‘s tale shows thorough research and is well told. It is fast moving ,yet takes time to explore the reactions and emotions of its characters. I would recommend this historical novel.

Fabulous book and the narrator was superb

I am a big fan of Elizabeth Chadwick and this book is another fabulous story by her. Great historical detail and a very moving portrayal of the life of Nesta of Wales. The narrator was spot on. I listen to many audiobooks and this one was very well read. Download it, You won't be disappointed.

Awful narration spoils a good book

having heard all Elizabeth Chadwicks audio books this is surprisingly bad. The story itself is excellent as with all her books, the narration however is poor. The narration is slow and the narration sounds like she us reading a shopping list, there's no flow and emotionless that gets cringeworthy on many parts. Would suggest rather than using a narrator who can use an accent of the protagonist but reads poorly, the author uses a narrator who reads well and with emotion.

Great story but awful narration!

The story was great but was spoiled by the awful narration! I won't be buying any more books with this narrator.
