Slow start but worth continuing with for a lovely ending. The main character is entertaining which is a relief, since it's narrated in first person.

I knew who she would end with but the journey did not make the destination any less boring. I really really liked it and it was just a random audio I wanted to try whilst working. I do recommend, the MC grows so much throughout the book honestly

I enjoyed this. main character was likeable & story was interesting. I thought it might have come out that she had social difficulties but it didn't... even more interesting

I wanted to leave a review because there was only one. I loved this story although I need to clarify that Aberdeen as outlined in the blurb is not the city in Scotland. It is set in America. After days of torrential rain, the town of Aber-deen (as it was pronounced) becomes flooded, while the adults decide whether to stay or go, 16 year old Keeley and her friends are making the most of their time together with house parties, kayaks and slip.n slides. Initially Keely is made out to be the awkward friend that guys only put up with to be with their more attractive friends but when her childhood crush starts to pay her attention she comes into her own. They are the class clowns, always up for fun, laughs and not taking life too seriously despite the town being in turmoil as the government takes advantage of the flood to squeeze its residents out to make space for a new damn. And Keely rather embarrassingly is daughter of the town of the local verbal conspiracy theorist.

I initially thought I would give up.on this title as nothing had really happened two hours in but soon I was stealing away every moment to finish it and giving myself migraines just to get to find out what happebs the end. It was an interesting backdrop for a first love story but didn't follow the usual conventions of girl falls for guy she initially doesn't get on with which is what I was expecting. It took a long time for Keeleys character to develop, she seemed to be rude and insensitive to what people were going through and even in the last hour I was lifting my hands shaking my head and asking WTF are you doing??!! But you understand why this is towards the end. The characters, emotions and situations are realistic and convey the harsh reality of growing up.

I did find the narators s voice slightly annoying, it sounded like she had a head-cold but if you put that aside and concentrate on.the story it begins to face out. I was gripped right to the very end and that life doesn't always end up tied in a neat little bow. It's complicated and messy. One thing which did annoy me was that there was more character investment in some more than others but this may have been done on purpose. As another reviewer has said the ending was beautiful and I could not agree more. Well worth a read.

Unexpectedly addictive

The title of this book is misleading. It’s NOT about the last boy and girl in the world. I started listening to it because I thought it was dystopian sci-fi, but it’s more like coming-of-age cli-fi. The narrator is good and the story is still compelling enough to listen on. Once I got into the characters, I wanted to find out what happens. But it is long! I listened on 1.7x speed.

This audible sparked emotions in me I didn’t even know were part of me. It was romantic, amusing, unpredictable and most of all touching. I HIGHLY recommend this audible to people that like to binge books but don’t have enough time to sit down and read. I liked to listen to this audible in alone car trips and , quite embarrassing actually, to go to sleep! I know you probably are pondering over whether to spend your monthly credit on this but as it is quite long I think it is very much worthwhile as you could get more out of it then say a 4hr audible.
So to wrap things up, this is one of my absolute favourites, and I’ve got 150 books in my library! 🤣
