The childhood of Chrestomanci. Everything in this book happens at least twenty-five years before the story told in Charmed Life…

Discovering that he has nine lives and is destined to be the next ‘Chrestomanci’ is not part of Christopher’s plans for the future: he’d much rather play cricket and wander around his secret dream worlds. Chronologically the first Chrestomanci book (though I think it is better to read "Charmed Life first) and a wonderful book.

I only have two problems with this version, firstly it is abridged which is a shame, secondly the narrator who is mostly good makes one or two of the characters have annoying whiney voices which, for me, grated.
As a whole I like this audiobook, but whether I will listen to it again I'm not sure.

However, let's have more DWJ books please Audible :)

This is a really good story, well paced, likable characters and a strong storyline. Not as good as the full version but well abridged. Samuel West does a brilliant job narrating.

I love the book and was thrilled to find it on audible so I could play it for my children on car journeys. The narrator is excellent however I was very disappointed to discover that this is an abridged version of the book and it is therefore significantly shorter and less rich and detailed than the original. What a disappointment and I wish I could find a recording of the full version as it is such a wonderful story.
