Loved the characters, the language, the nicknames. Life can be hard and cruel… and this story created a credible world of gangster abuse. The ending doesn’t exactly bring peace, but some kind of closure nevertheless.

Yet another amazing book by Ingrid Persaud made even better by her narrating it… I could listen to her voice all day… Ps Boysie wicked eh!

I have visited Trinidad, and so I enjoyed the dialect voices, but I guess some people might not. I thought this was very good, but not quite as good as her first book, which was really excellent.

Story of a real-life monster told by three of the women in his life.

The story itself is a whirlwind but what really did it for me was the expression and delivery of the voice actresses who really captured every single emotion through their delivery, bringing the people in this tragic story to life

The brilliance of this story had me hooked! I was totally immersed in the life of Boysie and the brilliant women whose lives revolved around him. This is such a rich and powerfully written book capturing an aspect of Trinidad that is eerie and enthralling!

I thoroughly enjoyed this book. The similarities, differences and entanglements of the relationships these women had with this one man kept me at the edge of my seat. A very good read.

Wowzer! I didn’t think it could get any better after listening to l Ingrid Persaud’s ‘Love After Love’ a couple of years back. Boy was I wrong! ‘The Lost Love Songs of Boysie Singh’ was such an immersive transportation back in time, I felt like the characters (apart from Boysie of course) were my friends. I can’t wait for this author’s next offering - what a fantastic talent.

The reference to the changes, food and culture in Trinidad in the 1940s was interesting. The actors captured the local accents very well. The main character Boyce was a truly awful character with no redeeming qualities. The references to post colonial colourism and class structure was subtly weaved into the story. Because Boyce was so insufferable I found it difficult to connect to the characters. Although it was obviously all women linked to him had vulnerabilities and suffered abuse at his hands. It was still difficult to see his appeal to the women in his life. The blurb described him as charismatic. I beg to differ. There was nothing charismatic or redeeming about him. I wanted to give up reading half way through but stuck it out because I absolutely loved the author’s previous work. I did not enjoy this one as much.
