About this listen
When Queenie Hennessy discovers that Harold Fry is walking the length of England to save her, and all she has to do is wait, she is shocked. Her note had explained she was dying. How can she wait? A new volunteer at the hospice suggests that Queenie should write again; only this time she must tell Harold everything. In confessing to secrets she has hidden for 20 years, she will find atonement for the past. As the volunteer points out, ‘Even though you’ve done your travelling, you’re starting a new journey, too.’
Queenie thought her first letter would be the end of the story. She was wrong. It was the beginning.Told in simple, emotionally-honest prose, with a mischievous bite, this is a novel about the journey we all must take to learn who we are; it is about loving and letting go. And most of all it is about finding joy in unexpected places and at times we least expect.

A little slow going but worth it
What did you like most about The Love Song of Miss Queenie Hennessy?
The insight into dying and hospice life
What did you like best about this story?
How it slows everything down and makes you appreciate all the little things in life.
What does Celia Imrie bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you had only read the book?
Lovely warmth in her voice.
If you made a film of this book, what would be the tag line be?
How to die well.
Any additional comments?
At first it seems impossible to be able to slow down enough to appreciate this book, but by the end the pace feels just right. It is a lovely companion to Harold Fry. I think Harold Fry would need to be read first to make it work however.

Excellent sequel
Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?
Although this book stands on it's own, I would recommend first reading "The Unlikely Pilgrimage of Harold Fry" of which this book is a sequel.
What was one of the most memorable moments of The Love Song of Miss Queenie Hennessy?
Discovering her connection with and secrets from Harold Fry
Have you listened to any of Celia Imrie’s other performances? How does this one compare?
N/A
Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?
No. It is not an easy story so I had to take it in bits but was worthwhile.
Any additional comments?
Not often is a sequel as compelling as the original story. This was most definitely that.

Moving sequel to the Last Pilgrimage of Harold Fry
This is a moving, sad story about dying. For fans of Last Pilgrimage, it is a "companion" book that tells the other side of the story. Best to read shortly after the first book - some of the details were rather hazy for me which lessens the smiling at recollected events. Queenie's character is very well drawn and beautifully narrated by Celia Imrie. The descriptions of places, people and emotions are very vivid. I think this is probably the best book of the 3 I have read by Rachel Joyce - I liked Harold Fry but this book has more depth of feeling and characterisation.

A Joy!!
A lovely companion piece to Harold Fry, with Queenie Hennessy providing the backstory that ultimately led to his unlikely pilgrimage. Celia Imrie is an absolute wonder!! Gorgeous bitter-sweet delivery.

Totally absorbing!
I read The unlikely pilgrimage of Harold Fry about a year ago and was gripped. Jim Broadbent’s performance brought Harold to life, with such truth that it was hard to put down. It got to Cornwall and back in no time at all.
Now The love song of Miss Queenie Hennessy has been the perfect reply to Harold. Celia Imrie is so honest and light and made Queenie a wonderful person to get to know. I could smell the sea garden, see all the patients and nurses. She triumphed with Finty, mr Henderson and the pearly king. Sister Mary Was who would love to be. The writing was faultless. It tripped and flowed tile a the cool waters of a brook.
I listened to this on a holiday I took alone. Queenie and all the characters have encouraged me to take more holidays alone and be truly absorbed!
Wonderful work!!!

Great for first time listeners
This book was recommended for first time listeners - new members of audible which I was. The story was different to the type of book I would normally read but it was captivating and Celia Imrie made all the difference with her beautiful narration. I recommend this as an introduction to the world of audible for new members.
