About this listen

A compelling OMG love story, The Love of My Life is a bold, mysterious romance from Rosie Walsh, author of The Man Who Didn't Call.

'Dazzling' - Lisa Jewell, author of The Family Upstairs

I have held you every night for ten years and I didn’t even know your name. We have a child together. A dog, a house.

Who are you?

Emma loves her husband Leo and their young daughter Ruby: she’d do anything for them. But almost everything she's told them about herself is a lie.

And she might just have got away with it, if it weren’t for her husband’s job. Leo is an obituary writer and Emma is a well-known marine biologist. So, when she suffers a serious illness, Leo copes by doing what he knows best: reading and writing about her life.

But as he starts to unravel her past, he discovers the woman he loves doesn’t really exist. Even her name is made-up.

When the very darkest moments of Emma’s past life finally emerge, she must somehow prove to Leo that she really is the woman he always thought she was. But first, she must tell him about the love of her other life . . .

Great book, loved the twists all the way through! Some brilliant characters, and descriptions so you felt you were there.

I nearly have up so many times on this book because the narration was painful. So forced and so grinding. The food story was spoiled. Forced and painful. Sorry.

Good sorry. Terrible narration

Good if slightly predictable story but did find the female narrator particularly irritating at times which sadly did take some enjoyment away. Overall I would recommend however.

Good story, struggled with narrators

I quite enjoyed this although it felt like it dragged out a bit at the end. The story was an interesting one but the characters seemed a bit wet to me and it was hard to empathise, even though I felt I should. Some twists were a bit unbelievable. I did struggle with the narrators as both seemed to have a very odd way of overemphasising words and phrases and Ms Church uses a sing song voice which felt like a children's presenter to me. I fully appreciate that she is recognised to be a great narrator, though, so it's probably just me. I came to this book after listening to Alan Cumming narrating the Second Cut and he is absolutely masterful, as indeed is the book, so maybe it's not a fair comparison. Overall, would recommend.

Enjoyable

Absolutely loved this story, lots of unexpected twists and turns, sorry to say that the narration by the woman was slow and over deliberate so I speeded it up to 1.2 which improved it!

Great story line

I felt it was a bit flat at the beginning and hard to get into but as the story has a lovely ending.

Good narration

Never did I guess, at the start of this book, that the ending would be quite so deep, so profound and so rewarding.

This book explores womanhood, childbirth, being a mother, a lover and a wife, through the searching, challenging life of ‘Emma’. A book for anyone who has experienced challenges in how to really live, to be authentic, and how to love unconditionally.

Captivating, unpredictable and authentic - a book that explores the depths of what it is to be a complete human, and how to love
