About this listen

Each generation of the Mallen family has been cursed with a dramatic white streak in their jet-black hair. Barbara does not have the visible streak to identify her as a Mallen, but she has spent her life trying to forget her parentage - and the horrific circumstances behind her birth.

When her triplets - the Mallen litter - were born, she hoped that it would herald a new beginning. But it seems that one of her sons bears the Mallen streak - and that the Mallen curse will never die out....

Yet another amazing story from Catherine Cookson. This one had a lot of characters that all intertwined but that is what made the story so intriguing.... a brilliant read 📚

Amazing 👏

A great book and story and the saga continues very nicely with the same characters and families in the main, a new maid for the triplets who I adored and all the characters well rounded. No character male or female ever written by Ms Cookson ever lacks any fire and substance. She never wrote weak mewly female fluffballs for her heroines and in that regard at last the annoying voice for Barbara of the last 2 books has gone and thankfully been replaced by the reader with an adult one.

The book this time is pretty much all focused on Barbara and Michael and their love for one another still and the Mallen triplets, (the said Mallen litter) who grow up within the story as too does Hannah Radlett who is Michael's daughter and she as a result also features much more.

Katie Bensham marries and has a mongoloid son which is unusual and different and along with Barbara' Mallens deafness in these stories it gives even more meat to the bone.

Whatever people may think of her Catherine was never afraid of tackling any subject be it rape, incest or blatant prejudice head on. I think that's why I love her so much. I've asked Audible to do many more of her books. Colour Blind is another absolute cracker and it needs the same reader. She has really got her teeth into these and the Tyneside accents so well.

Meantime with this trilogy you have a fine set of books by probably the best female writer in my lifetime. Cannot recommend them more.

A Fitting Ending to a Fabulous Trilogy

I usually enjoy catherine cookson books but I found this story difficult to follow. It was not in her usual style and didnot interest me I had to make myself read it very unusual for me.

very disappointing very confusing story

I enjoyed the story but this particular narration was dreadful. The voice change for children and old people was especially annoying and unreal. Shame because I love Catherine Cooksons well narrated books.

Good story but terrible narration
