Callahan is the last of a thinning population able to cross the sun-baked desert trading for much needed supplies to keep his people alive. He discovers that he is not the only trader to pay a visit to the withering town slipping into oblivion. The town's administrator warns Callahan that men have visited his town and offered them a trade. But the trade comes at a price.
