About this listen

A stunning novel from Richard and Judy pick, Amanda Brooke.

Is not knowing worse than knowing the truth?

He has a secret…

Jo is five months pregnant with the baby she always wanted, and on the surface she has the perfect marriage to David, the love of her life. The only thing marring her happiness is the secret she’s hiding from her husband.

She told a lie…

Then David disappears and there doesn’t seem to be any trace of him. Did the secrets inside his marriage chase him away? Or something much worse?

Would you rather know the whole truth or nothing at all?

Very different!

I did enjoy the book, but found one or two parts laboured excessively. There was however an excellent summing up of Anxiety neurosis and the grieving processes, which will no doubt be a help to many.

Disappointing book....

It was unremitting dreary overdone mawkish sentiment from beginning to end. No cliche left unstated..... Slightly interesting plot, which kept me going to the end, but I was glad to finish it.

Disappointing as this was a Richard and Judy selection

80% of the book are descriptions of the main character's panic attacks!
A dull ending didn't redeem it .

Hard work!

What three words best describe Julia Barrie’s performance?

Generally, it was okay, but when she voiced men, they tended to sound sleepy, drunk, or both.

Any additional comments?

I really wanted to like this book. However, I put off purchasing it for some time due to so many reviews describing it as excessively rambling and drawn out. Eventually, I took the plunge. Unfortunately, the bad reviews were right. The basic idea and the characters are good, but it cries out for heavy editing. Based on me having listened to two thirds of it, and finding that, other than the birth of a baby, nothing has happened since the first chapter, it wouldn't be too much to edit out a third of the book at a minimum! I usually give-up on books quite early if I'm not enjoying them. I have stuck with this so far because I wanted to know what happened in the end. I can't take it any longer though and will return it.

The Missing Husband

I couldn’t wait for this book to end, it seemed to go on and on. 98% of the book was just the main character moaning. The narration was awful too. Wouldn’t recommend.
