About this listen
From the number one international best-selling author of Holy Island and Longstone.
The circus is in town....
When a 10-year-old girl turns up on DCI Ryan’s doorstep to tell him she’s witnessed a murder, he has no idea he’s about to step into his most spellbinding case yet. The circus has rolled into Newcastle upon Tyne, bringing with it a troupe of daring acrobats, magicians and jugglers - and one of them is a killer.
Ryan and his team must break through their closed ranks to uncover a secret which has lain buried for eight years, before the killer strikes again - this time, to silence the only living witness....
Murder and mystery are peppered with romance and humour in this fast-paced crime whodunit set amidst the spectacular Northumbrian landscape.

The Circus comes to town
This time Ryan, Phillips and McKenzie are trying to solve an eight year old murder in the circus community. Alongside this Lowerson, as acting SIO, and Yates are busy trying to solve a series of gangland killings. Towards the end of the book it becomes clear that the two cases might be linked. The book ends on a bit of a cliffhanger with one character in peril (good job I already have the next book in the series!)
It was great to meet Ryan’s team again. As always the banter between Ryan and Phillips was hilarious. But the standout character of this book was the wonderfully delightful Samantha. The relationship between her and Phillips and McKenzie was so lovely. She is a child who seems so much older than her ten years, but is also very vulnerable.
This wasn’t my favourite Ryan book. I feel that the plot was a little simplistic but it was still an entertaining story and I can’t wait to get started on the next in the series.
I listened to the Audible version and as always Jonathan Keeble delivers an impeccable, flawless performance.

Another LJ Ross fantastic DCI Ryan mystery
The Moor is another great whodunit mystery from LJ Ross, full of twists and turns, leaving you guessing all the way through. Jonathan Keebles' narrative is spot on, and you feel as if you know the characters personally. As this novel ended on a cliffhanger, I can't wait to start the next book in the series!
