All you need is not love but an enemy
There are many factors to a successful (in the beginning) dictatorship. The worrying aspect through listening to this, is that, you don't need many to get started. Throw in one or two sycophants, find something or someone to blame and bobs you uncle Stalin or fuhrer or duce. To a certain degree every human being (certainly politicians) has a bit of it in them. Tell me you don't have an inkling to hate, it's in all of us but luckily, like news, we move on to something else in a few days. When we allow it, and someone, to control us, things turn out rather differently. Extremely brought to life by this book. I think we, as human beings, just can't help ourselves!

Beautifully Read and Crisply Written

Quite remarkable.
Chillingly relevant to today. He is an exceptional historian. The use of behavioural psychology is fascinating and makes the comparisons with today more compelling.

Interesting and good
I enjoyed this book although I think it could have delved into the psychology side a little more. I appreciate that this would be difficult as the war was 80 years ago.

A warning from history.
Very interesting book. I liked the fresh angle of considering the history from a psychological perspective. So many parallels to the world we find ourselves in today. We ignore these warnings at our peril.
Excellent narration throughout. I would really recommend to everyone.

Dark perfection
The narration is perfect so you’re in good hands. The facts and events are broken down very well. You’re not overwhelmed by impenetrable facts and there’s a lot of surprising explanations and detail into the vileness carried out. It’s brutal in places but it’s inescapable that we look at these crimes. Whether we’re due to repeat them who knows but if we do we can’t do it without knowing what will happen and the darkness that will come.
