About this listen

Alexanor is a man who has seen too much blood. He has left the sword behind him to become a healer in the greatest sanctuary in Greece, turning his back on war.

But war has followed him to his refuge at Epidauros and now a battle to end the freedom of Greece is all around him. The Mediterranean superpowers of Rome, Egypt and Macedon are waging their proxy wars on Hellenic soil, turning Greek farmers into slaves and mercenaries.

When wounded soldier Philopoemen is carried into his temple, Alexanor believes the man's wounds are mortal but that he is not destined to die. Because he knows Philopoemen will become Greece's champion. Its last hero. The new Achilles.

did not draw me in as much as his other works. Still interisting story with interesting details.

Old folk will nod in understanding and enjoyment; young folk will be drawn in and learn.
If only, when I did my O level English we had something from Christian Cameron instead of Wuthering bloody Heights.
CC's audio books are blessed not with good narrators, but truly great ones. Well done John Telfer, you were the icing on the cake. 😊 Mick the Hick

First class as usual; never disappoints.

This is the second Christian Cameron book i have read, and I couldnt finish it. Too much boring detail often repeated, as though his readers aren't expected to understand. If you are using historical facts as the story you still need characterisation, plot and a bit of spark. Hilary Mantel and Bernard Cornwell for example. The writing here is pretty leaden.

Excellent story and brilliant battle scenes, narration was spot on as well. Can't wait for more.

Another hit for Cameron with fantastic characters you love immediately. A cheeky reference to the long war in there too. I know I heard it.

Classic Cameron

Not my cup of tea, I just couldn't follow it. Would perhaps suit someone who knows more about the period than me. I couldn't keep track of who was doing what or why.

Didn't love it
