Summary

Olivia and Julian are enjoying lazy days in their Spanish villa, a well-deserved break from their busy lives. Especially for Julian, who after a lifetime as a carer was thrust into the public eye following the tragic murder of his first wife.

The languid heat and peace of the villa is broken only by clifftop walks, sun-drenched lunches and cooling swims. Until a chance encounter with Gabriel—an attractive man, many years their junior—changes everything. Soon their idyllic break turns into a dangerous, high-stakes game of cat-and-mouse. Will any of them get out alive?

Perfect for fans of T.M. Logan's The Catch and The Couple at No. 9 by Claire Douglas.

Critic reviews

"This taut, elegant thriller thrums with dark menace and dread. I couldn’t look away." (Kate Riordan, best-selling author of The Heatwave)

Not my cup of tea

Unfortunately I just couldn’t get into the story a bit long winded and to be honest boring

Excellent!

A great listen, brilliant narration bought story and characters to life. Twisting this way and that, keeps you guessing right to the end!

Different

I failed to see the ending. I finished listening to the story but didn't really enjoy it. I struggled to find empathy for Julian, though felt I should. A weak man in many ways. Spineless even!
Gabriel, a man of intrigue, though his character is never fully revealed, which was fine.

Addictive!!

Couldn’t wait to finish this and find out the ending, I loved the suspense in it. Slightly slow to get into but it’s brilliant once it gets going.

Narrator is fantastic too and is talented at doing accents.

Good thriller, ending not expected. I enjoyed listening to this and hope to hear more from this author.

Mixed feelings!

This kept me listening but wasn’t what I expected…I felt there was a distinct distaste towards women in this story that really put me off…they were either young & totally under-developed in terms of character or old and portrayed as mildly repulsive. It’s a small thing in terms of the plot etc but it really grated. The main character I found irritating and weak, which I think is the intention, but it didn’t make for pleasant listening to be in his company.

A slow burner

Slow starter, but bought together …….eventually. With a few quite satisfying twists. I found it difficult to sympathise with all but one of the characters.
On a minor note, I have never been “privileged” to the toileting habits of so many characters before.
