Summary

Updated edition available 4 July

‘A riveting read that skips along at pace. Illuminating and concerning, it lifts the lid on the tawdry world of Westminster powerbroking’ Tim Shipman, The Times

YOU THINK YOU LIVE IN A WORLD WHERE THE ELECTED ARE CHOSEN BY THE PEOPLE.

THINK AGAIN.

When Boris Johnson came to power in 2019, he did so with the largest Conservative majority since Margaret Thatcher. Rewriting the political map, he united a party and shattered Labour’s fabled red wall. And yet, just three years later, he was ousted by the same members who had once greeted his leadership so rapturously.

What had gone so wrong?

The Plot is the seismic, fly-on-the-wall account of how the saviour of the Conservative Party became a pariah. Told with unparalleled access, from multiple inside sources talking with astonishing candour, it reveals the shocking truth about powerful forces operating behind the scenes in the heart of Westminster and those who became the architects of a Prime Minister’s downfall.

This is the story of a damning trail of treachery and deceit fuelled by an obsessive pursuit of power, which threatens to topple the very fabric of our democracy.

The people controlling the Tiries

I am not a "political" person, but was interested in this story by Nadine. I am shell shocked at what goes on in the Conservative party and beyond. The skullduggery (I can hear Boris using that word) is beyond comprehension how MP's and Ministers look down on us plebs to suit their own "needs" This book is a must read, even if you are like me and are looking to rwad yiur 1st political book.
Thank you Nadine and Boris.

Interesting but no need for constant swearing and use of F***

Whether true or more social media one does not know.
It would have been useful to be told who was Dr No!
Overhaul very good if not too slanted to her own cause and fame.

Revelations in book

The pieces of a puzzle we have lived through coming together to rock your faith in Democracy in the Uk. The Manchurian candidate certainly makes sense. Power Greed and narcissistic behaviour. Never thought this could be the case in our wonderful country!

Bring back Boris!!

Wow!! That blew my mind. I always thought there was a level of underhand manipulation at Number 10 - but this is another level. A great audiobook and one I highly recommend to anyone whether politically minded or not (and I’m not btw)

If only half of this is true …

If only half of this is true our democracy is at serious risk. Leaving aside Nads’s unequivocal loyalty to Boris, which means some of what she recounts has to be assessed in that light, the treatment of a PM by shady dishonest power hungry game playing characters is disgraceful. Conniving and backstabbing by unelected self appointed advisers and officials, many of whom are supposed to be working in the public interest as civil servants is just nauseating. And for what? Look at the chaos they’ve caused. It’s all just a game … Now about to start Rory Stewart’s Politics on the Edge, as well as rewatching the BBC’s State of Chaos through new eyes

Our corrupt politicians are like Hollywood performers!

We as the public are being played like a fiddle. The politicians at the top, with the media’s support, are manipulating the great people of our country.. and there’s not a thing we can do to prevent it. Voting in a democracy is a total waste of time and energy. I’m absolutely demoralised with our whole government system & will never vote again.

Oligarchy

This book is a lurid and dark tale of the British oligarchy. It feels like a fiction thriller at times and it is hard to believe the events recounted are true, that these actually happened at the heart of this country's government. The story is believable, though, for anyone with more than two brain cells to rub together knows - Sunak usurped power. This book outlines how. Democracy was bypassed, cynically so.
Constitutional changes to the British political system are badly needed.

Brilliant voice narration, easy to listen.

Very thought provoking

I believe that this audio book will open people's eyes to the stuff going on behind the scenes on politics. I don't want to say too much as it may ruin it for them.
