About this listen

A brutal murder.

A raven tattoo.

A twisted killer has returned.

And Detective Beth Fellows cannot fail again....

Detective Chief Inspector Beth Fellows is thrown into the biggest case of her career: the brutal murder of Rose Danes. She quickly realizes Rose’s murder is linked to a cold case she investigated two years previously. The victim, 14-year-old Celine Wilson, survived but now languishes in a coma.

Both girls were branded with the image of a raven.

The only lead is a vague description and a first name, Simon.

Beth’s convinced he’s the killer. Especially when she receives a mobile phone containing one sole contact, Simon—and a warning to tell no one.

Then a key witness is kidnapped, and Beth finds herself in a race against time to stop the killer before he can kill again.

She’s breaking all the rules to play his game. But will it be enough?

Cliched narrative

The story arc needs the lead character to make loads of stupid and implausible decisions and these leave footprints that mean the outcomes are easy to predict. The main character also came across as self absorbed and she was difficult to like. The dialogue felt it was cut and paste from a multitude of identikit police dramas. I listened to it all as I was on a long car journey, and I did want to see if my predictions about the outcome were right. Not a terrible book, but it could have benefitted from some better editing.

Just Ok

The strong female main character was just so unlikeable, the plot was a bit silly but it was ok I suppose, it passed the time for a few hours.

Worth a listen

Not half as bad as other reviewers are saying. Did they listen to the end?

Great narration, Fun story

I thoroughly enjoyed this book! The narrator kept me hooked, she sounded like she was as engaged with the story as I was. Her tone perfectly reflected the mood of the moment! I was surprised to read other reviews saying how drab she was when I had just a couple of days ago been telling a friend how perfectly she presents the pace of the plot.

I also LOVED story. I'm aware there were factual inconsistencies, and some of the points do seem a little cliche, but it is such a nice story, sometimes it's ok to be using the standard plot points. it's fun and a comfy listen!

If you want something new, and fun, this is it, but it's not an "HGWells" level of good, just... cosy :)
