Brilliantly read
Brilliantly read by Anton Lesser. Intonation makes it interesting , subtle change in voices, no loud or over-egged gravelly voices- sublime - the best I’ve heard.

Enjoyable
Really enjoyed this book although a little dated to our ears. I am no lover of boats, getting seasick standing on a pontoon l never the less got involved with the mapping and boat terms, and the whole storyline.

A classic
A classic of its time. A moody spy thriller as war looms between Britain and Germany

Exciting ‘Boys own’ story
Well written spy story that engages both the readers mind and imagination. I read a paperback copy of this book some years ago and thoroughly enjoyed this edition.

Too many words
Some great turns of phrases, research of the seas must have been extensive but I had to skip a lot.

A Thoroughly Engrossing Novel
An interesting plot line. Some of the naval terminology in the book would have thrown me without a dictionary handy.
However, in my opinion, the relationship between the 2 main characters and the mystery in the novel are the defining features. The language Childers uses combined with fantastic narration by Anton Lesser really draws you in and makes you feel involved.
I would happily recommend this book to anyone.

An example of excellence
A thoughtful rendition of this classic tale. Written by a great sailor, it foresees the future with great insight and provided a relevant warning to an unprepared government.

Mixed
Interesting.
Lovely prose.
Shocking racist remarks X 2.
Of its time?
It was certainly worth listening to, simply for the use of language and turn of phrase.
