About this listen
England, 1959: Laurel Nicolson is 16 years old, dreaming alone in her childhood tree house during a family celebration at their home, Green Acres Farm. She spies a stranger coming up the long road to the farm and then observes her mother, Dorothy, speaking to him. And then she witnesses a crime.
Fifty years later, Laurel is a successful and well-regarded actress, living in London. She returns to Green Acres for Dorothy’s 90th birthday and finds herself overwhelmed by memories and questions she has not thought about for decades. She decides to find out the truth about the events of that summer day and lay to rest her own feelings of guilt. One photograph, of her mother and a woman Laurel has never met, called Vivian, is her first clue.
The Secret Keeper explores longings and dreams, the lengths some people go to fulfill them, and the strange consequences they sometimes have. It is a story of lovers, friends, dreamers and schemers, play-acting, and deception told against a backdrop of events that changed the world.

A TALENTED STORY TELLER!
I always enjoy Kate Morton's books and especially this one. The story twists its way through different time zones leaving the listener wanting to know more as the story infolds.
The only thing I found strange was the narrator's take on a black country accent but the rest of the story she did a good job.
Would recommend this story however taking all things into account as the story is excellent.

Good story, less sure about the narration
The story was a good story if you want something easy to listen to.
The narrator’s accents were all over the place. I wasn’t sure whether any of the characters were northern, Scottish, Irish or Welsh most of the time but then maybe they just dropped their Gs at the end of everythin’ to show they were lower class?! Who knows?
Overall a lengthy (always a bonus), undemanding, pleasant story.

Great story, beautifully woven together over 3 timelines
Just a little spoiled by the strange accent in the telling of Dolly’s story. Was it meant to be Irish? Otherwise I loved it.

Great story
This was a great story, very long and detailed.
Great twist at the end.
Not sure why the narrator kept slipping into a strange Irish accent for Dorothy though

Very well planned out and highly researched novel.
Knew what the big twist would but still enjoy it. It is evident how much research has gone into the book when you see the amount of detail given.

Sprint finish
This is well worth a credit. It's a little slow in the middle, but that's easily forgiven by the fantastic ending. It's one of those reveals that makes you say - 'I didn't think that felt right and now it all makes sense'. I will definitely be re-listening now I know the ending. The narrator has a gentle Australian accent which is easy on the ears until she tries to do a strange Birmingham like accent that sounds almost like Irish at times. A large part of the book is performed in this rather strange accent but, to be honest, it's awkwardness fades away the more you listen. Please don't let that dissuade you or you'll be missing out on a really great book.
