I really enjoyed this book . its very different to what I'd normally read but I'm so glad I took a chance. it's well written and well read. yes you need to listen and hear what's being said . it's not a light read but worth it .

I have a lot of feelings about this book so be warned! I didn’t know about Jo Bonger prior to reading and thought her husband Theo Van Gogh was responsible for making his brother famous. Bloody patriarchy! The poor woman went through several kinds of hell in her life ( having her husband financially supporting his rather selfish and self obsessed brother when they were newly married being just one) so bravo to the author for telling her story. As for the book, I could have lived without the modern chapters but they aren’t awful in themselves. I’m just not a big reader of romance and it’s in these chapters where the background of the author stands out. Overall it’s very enjoyable.

Was hoping to learn more about Theo, Jo and Vincent… but if one knows a bit there probably won’t be anything in this book that is a surprise.

I always like the 2 stories intertwined style. Liked the historical element. Narration not good for historical characters, abit distracting. Fine for american one. A bit kind of predictable but still enjoyable
