About this listen
The End, Rena wrote on the calendar square.
Rena Abrios, the only living seer on the planet of Anyari, has her most horrific vision yet - she foresees the apocalypse.
Soon, nearly every human on her peaceful, technologically advanced planet will die. Rena even knows who’s behind it: philanthropist Alvun Merak.
This type of prophecy can’t be averted. Despite that, Rena believes her sister, 17-year-old Ellin, is meant to fight it.
The more Ellin learns about Merak, the more alarmed she becomes. He’s funding an archeological dig with mysterious, world-ending potential. Ellin, her boyfriend Trett, and Rena scramble to stop him.
But Merak’s wealth and power may make him unbeatable. And the seer and her sister know that fate is the fiercest enemy of all.
Will anyone survive the prophesied apocalypse?
The Seer’s Sister is the exciting sci-fi prequel to The Magic Eaters YA fantasy trilogy. It’s a full-length novel that can be listened to before or after the trilogy or as a stand-alone. If you like imperfect characters worth rooting for, villains with dark secrets, and in-depth worldbuilding, then you’ll love Carol Beth Anderson’s heart-pounding tale.
Content note: The Seer’s Sister contains scenes of abduction and captivity, along with plot lines relating to cancer and death, including discussion of a child’s death.
©2021 Carol Beth Anderson (P)2021 Carol Beth AndersonRena is the only living seer and her talent has been kept a secret. Most of her predictions are immutable, so cannot be changed. She has an immutable vision of the end of the world, but also that her sister Ellin must try to stop the event.
Ellin has a hard time accepting her fate, but comes round and together with her boyfriend Trett and her sister Rena they set out to attempt the impossible task.
They discover that they are up against the richest and most powerful man in their world...
Initially all three main characters annoyed the heck out of me, but I grew to understand Rena and Ellin and the events that formed their personalities.
As always Beth created characters that are relatable and sometimes irritating, because they are so real and human, warts and all.
I loved finding out more about the technologically advanced Anyaran world before the apocalypse and what exactly happened on ‘The Day’ and would actually like to see more stories from that time period.
I have to be honest and say that I don’t think the prequel is as good as the wonderful Magic Eaters trilogy, but still a great read and the perfect way to experience the end before the beginning!
The author narrated the novel herself and is a pleasure to listen to. Beth reads at a good pace with clear and concise diction.
I received this book in audio book format from the author and am leaving this review of my own volition.
A great prequel to The Magic Eaters Trilogy

The book takes you back to before The Day, the time when everything changed and the world became the way it is in the Magic Eaters Trilogy. I think this was the best of the series, it was gripping and emotional. It was fascinating to find out about the stone and how it affected everyone.

Having the book read by the author let me hear her emphasis in places I hadn't heard it through the written text.
An entirely different experience, and a thoroughly enjoyable one at that.
Superb, even when knowing what comes after The Day
