About this listen

Five footprints are the only sign that Daniel Buck was ever here. And now they are all his mother has left.

Every day Anna Buck guards the little prints in the cement. Polishing them to a shine. Keeping them safe. Spiralling towards insanity. When a psychic offers hope, Anna grasps it. Who wouldn't? Maybe he can tell her what happened to her son....

But is this man what he claims to be? Is he a visionary? A shut eye? Or a cruel fake preying on the vulnerable? Or is he something far, far worse?

After enjoying Rubberneckers I was looking forward to Shut Eye and I wasn't disappointed. Fast paced and compelling throughout with few surprises along the way. Again a terrific narration by A.D. Would recommend.

Another hit.

I have read lots of this authors books now and enjoyed every one of them. always well written and clever storylines. Had this on audible whilst working and was hooked straight away. Andrew Wincott is easy on the ear and i enjoyed his crystal clear tones, perfect timing and character portrayals very much, but of course he is a pro. Wish all narrators could be so good. can't wait for my next B Bauer book.

beautifully read

Belinda Bauer is my all time favourite author- this is another masterpiece! Intriguing, exciting and twists you don't see coming. Just loved it.

Another belter!

Gaspingly great pace, Belinda Baur's weaving of human frailty and vulnerability into every character brought me on occasion to my figurative knees and often literal whoops.

First class narrator who managed the spectrum of voices just the way my mind's ear would have.

I loved this!

Another stonkingly good Belinda Baur

Belinda Bauer is a ridiculously underrated writer. It’s no mean feet to wrap all these characters up together and make a complicated story look as simple as a circle. Enjoy this book till the last line, and then start again. Top marks.

Criminally Good!

No, not really. Parts of it needed a little time in between.

What an incredible story. Every book of Belinda’s I’m so impressed with the flow of the descriptive language and the complete absorption of the story. She is such a talented writer!

My favourite author!

It takes a couple of hours before the story really gets going, during which time I almost gave up on it. It was just treading water, and I thought the parents observations were too maudlin, and the garage scenes just didn't tell me anything. Even the voices were grating. However when Inspector Marvel rocks up, the story gets going and I got into it then. I even started to like the voices. From then on really, I was kept interested, and the intertwining of story strands and characters keeps you guessing.

I think Marvel provided a nice sarcastic humorous element to it, to lighten it up. He could certainly do with his own series. I know that there are lots of cops out there, and he isn't too different, but the way he rubs up everyone the wrong way, but in a comical manner, makes you want him in every scene.

Another positive, is that the names are very distinct, so if you are listening to this over a number of months, you don't forget who people are

Dreary start but stay with it
