Reading this book after having watched the film adaptation, I understood the role and importance of a screen writer. The film is quite different to the book but you understand why - films/movies have to be as engaging and entertaining as much as possible while encompassing as much of the book as possible into a 1.5 hour film.
The book is a bit slow compared to the film and highly repetitive in places but, it's more fleshy allowing you to understand and identify with the characters more closely and appreciate with greater empathy, their triumphs and failures... I found the book to be a rewarding read even if I found myself easily distracted and a little bored at times...
You'll Enjoy even if you've watched the Film

I was pleasantly surprised about the ending/plot twist of the book, which was different to the movie and personally seemed much better.
the overall story is great, but I have to be honest and say it took me a long time to listen but it was probably due to external factors in my life such as school and reduced motivation to finish audio books as a whole.
however, there is a small issue with the eagles chant which got very annoying very quickly, and the characters saying the phrase "ahhhh" which wasn't great. Otherwise a great book and a nice edition to the film.
Ending better than the film

Aaaaah, those sublime tones of Kenny G-Songbird. Or, Aaaaargh, those sublime tones of Kenny G-Songbird. E-A-G-L-E-S. The stomach-master 6000 and how this helps pat deal with difficult thoughts and emotions.
What a brilliant story that sucks you in. I won't do the usual plotline review, but the characters like Dr Clive and his genius and intuitively caring way he helps Pat, The descriptions of Pat and how he views life after being interned and suffering from Bi-polar disorder and how that gradually changes through his experiences with people and situations. The Eagles football team and belonging. Why songbird causes Pat so much pain and him making sense of it all as his memories are re-built.
I have wondered, just how the film was handled considering the imaginary sequences etc.
