The characters were very engaging and an insight into what poverty really meant and how lucky we are today.

I loved this book from start to finish nothing too taxing, a great story of jealousy and good overcoming the evil Stella, who I swore out loud at a few times whilst listening. I'll be looking for more titles this author for sure.

Victoria annoyed me, she is frustratingly stubborn and makes stupid decisions, imo it's not a true hardship story. maybe I'm used to real stories of real people, but it's weird how she always manages to have help, people given her free clothes, free food, moving to a really rough area and everybody is nice and helps? people of high status listening to her even tho she is in rags, just seems to made up for me to enjoy the story. its hard to explain without spoiling the story, but for me she tries to be too much of a hero, and gets her in trouble. not for me.. im on chapter 19 and very bored. but will finish as I've started.

This is the OST audible with this authorI have listened toDilly Courts before.Picked this one at random.I am so impressed with the novel and the narrator.Such a moving story had me close to tears at times.A highly recommended novel.I am going to try the Mc Kenzie trilogy next💕

This grittier than Georgette Heyer story had me wanting to know the outcome until the end and there were one or two surprises on the way. To say more would spoil it for others. I had one or two issues with the narrator's pronunciation of certain words. And surely the family O'Shea would be pronounced O-Shay and not O'Shee-ar. But I stand to be corrected by Irish listeners.
