Great story, poor narration
I really love the story of this book. It didn’t try to be Rizzoli and Isles, it did something different, and I really enjoyed the plot.
The accents, particularly the English accent of the narrator, was horrific! To the point, I thought it was trying to demonstrate people were pretending to be English and I got a little confused. The narration needs some work, but the story is great.

Good story, shame about the narration
I enjoyed the story but had I known how bad the narrator’s English accent was I would probably have chosen to read this one. It really pulled me out of those sections of the book and I spent more time thinking about how bad the narration was instead of concentrating on what was happening in the plot. I would have preferred the narrator to not even attempt the accent.

The narrators grating voice
The narration was awful, the eternal sing song lilt of the narrator, through happy and sad, passion and terror was infuriating.

Lacks the magic of the original Rizzoli and Isles books
A passable story that could lead to a really good new series however like many of the latest garrettston books it doesn't quite have the charm and catch that the initial R&I books had.
The performance is mostly good however the English accent that pops up quite often is absolutely appalling.

The Spy Coast
This is Tess Gerritsen's first spy story and involves a number of retired agents who now live in the small town of Purity, Maine, when the past comes visiting. Maggie Bird now raises chickens and lives a quiet life, even if she does have a very professional security system. When a body is left in her driveway, she comes to the attention of the young Police Chief, Jo Thibodeau.
The reason for the body dumped on her drive is a message from Maggie's past and the story then weaves between Maggie's life as an agent and her relationship with her doctor husband, who treated the rich and wealthy who have secrets that the CIA wish to know. It is clear that Maggie is a very honourable person, perhaps a little too honourable for the intelligence services, who struggles with betrayal.
This book takes you from the USA, through Asia, Europe and London. I started with the Audible version but the British accents were SO terrible, I moved to kindle. I have been a little spoilt with spy stories over the years, my favourite of which is the darkly sarcastic series set in Slough House and written by Mick Herron. This is much more straightforward but was a good read. Rated 3.5, rounded up to a 4.

Good book ruined by the narration
As a British native this book was a painful listen. The attempts at British accents were cringingly awful and the pronunciation of certain words jarring. This is a shame as the plot and the storytelling were enjoyable, if at times a tad cliched. I would definitely recommend it as a book but would tell people to read for themselves and avoid the narration.

Enjoyable story
Enjoyable story. Good old fashioned yarn. Good characters.Absolutely terrible English accents, should never have been allowed!
