Morton Farrier was no longer at the top of his game. His forensic genealogy career was faltering and he was refusing to accept any new cases, preferring instead to concentrate on locating his own elusive biological father. Yet, when a particular case presents itself, that of finding the family of a woman abandoned in the midst of the Battle of Britain, Morton is compelled to help her to unravel her past. Using all of his genealogical skills, he soon discovers that the case is connected to The Spyglass File; a secretive document which throws up links which threaten to disturb the wrongdoings of others, who would rather its contents, as well as their actions, remain hidden forever. This is the fourth book in the Morton Farrier genealogical crime mystery series, although it can be enjoyed as a standalone story.

This book pays tribute to the work of WAAFs in WW2. It might have been more respectful if the narrator had bothered to pronounce their rank correctly. There are no Lootenants in the British services. Nor do you pronounce the L in Folkestone. It’s sloppy and irritating to listen to in a book which uses both words a lot.

Good mystery story well written with actual facts which could make you investigate the time and places more . Which I did on a recent visit to Folkestone and surrounding areas. A page turner.

I have an interest in genealogy and found this book fascinating, a little let down by the reader who has a pleasant reading voice but some of his pronunciation is very suspect and becomes a bit jarring. Overall though a good book.

I have a soft spot for NDG stories. They are well written, meticulous researched books. And I know there has to be a story - but it seems as though being a genealogist is a dangerous job 😆. The one thing that disappoints me is the narrators poor grasp of English pronunciation. I think he has spent too long watching US movies and tv shows and it shows- lootenant eg🙄. In common with the previous narrator, the simple mispronunciation of GeneAlogist really gets me. Once this is all sorted out, I will really enjoy listening to more
