Excellent narration that just brought me back to to my youth. and I agree with the whole absurdity of evolutionary fate

A classic - but not for everyone

This is my third listen to this recording. The story is something for itself, the protagonist is very well written, but also challenging because his way of thinking and living is detached from society.
But because of all the intentional gaps in the story, the book makes you think and wonder. Why is it so? Is the protagonist justified or not? How did he become like this? What does it tell of morality? Of justice.
The language and prose is sublime.

Loved it

Nice book to ease yourself into the absurdity of life. Would recommend for an angsty teen who is going through their first wave of existential dread. Great narration also!

Interesting read

It’s not a pleasant story. The protagonist, who is not particularly likeable from the outset, goes on to commit a heinous crime. However, the descriptive writing is awe inspiring. I was surprised to find ‘The End’ at the end of chapter 4, but the explanation of the translation into English in chapter 5 was interesting, as was the philosophical discussion in chapter 6. I’m left dissatisfied, however, at the complete focus on existentialism with no consideration to the mental health of M. Meursault, who, to me, seemed to be suffering the disconnection of some kind of relational trauma, which is reawakened by the death of his mother. It is thought provoking and the description, particularly of the sun and heat, is stunning.

Murder ? I hardly know her

An absolutely stunning, and short, story about how to tell someone you don’t love them.
And some other important messages about the tentativeness of our mortality or something - I don’t know.
Worst romance arc of the century (sorry Camus). 5/5

Overrated

Maybe I'm a philistine but I just don't get what all the fuss is about.
An average novella with a bit of philosophy thrown in.
When you need an extra 30 minutes at the end for two academics
to tell you what it means and why it is so good you realise why
so many people feel they should read it.
Its cited as one of the best existentialist pieces of writing there is,
The author however hates it's existentialist label

SO weird

I'm not a huge reader, but I've never read anything like this. The book opens with such a sympathetic situation, but the main character's thoughts are so unrelatable.

I found it beautiful and weirdly life affirming.
