About this listen

To the outside world, Electra D’Aplièse seems to be the woman with everything: as one of the world’s top models, she is beautiful, rich and famous.

Yet beneath the veneer, Electra’s already tenuous control over her state of mind has been rocked by the death of her father, Pa Salt, the elusive billionaire who adopted his six daughters from across the globe. Struggling to cope, she turns to alcohol and drugs. As those around her fear for her health, Electra receives a letter from a complete stranger who claims to be her grandmother.

In 1939, Cecily Huntley-Morgan arrives in Kenya from New York to nurse a broken heart. Staying with her godmother, a member of the infamous Happy Valley set, on the shores of beautiful Lake Naivasha, she meets Bill Forsythe, a notorious bachelor and cattle farmer with close connections to the proud Maasai tribe. But after a shocking discovery and with war looming, Cecily has few options. Moving up into the Wanjohi Valley, she is isolated and alone. Until she meets a young woman in the woods and makes her a promise that will change the course of her life for ever.

Sweeping from Manhattan to the magnificent wide-open plains of Africa, The Sun Sister is the sixth instalment in Lucinda Riley’s multi-million selling epic series, The Seven Sisters.

An engaging addition to the family

I was dubious about this, the sixth book in the series, having read some negative reviews. However, I really enjoyed it, found it a believable and engaging story and, quickly warmed to the narrators (the only really rocky bit being Bobby’s execrable Scottish accent!). The Sun Sister was worth waiting for and I recommend it to anyone who’s enjoyed the first five books - and probably new readers too - though knowing the background will help. I look forward to the last instalment of the Seven Sisters.

Wonderful story

Loved this story of love and redemption, slightly strange, stilted narration by one of the narrators but I got used to it and it didn’t spoil the story. Love this series and sad it’s coming to an end!

Love it

Very different to the other books, they are all quiet different stories in fact, but all equally enjoyable. Cannot wait for Pa Salt

Enthralling

Riley follows three generations of women living their lives from the days of British Colonial rule up until today. She talks from the perspective of a white privileged woman who falls in love with Africa, and with an orphaned black baby, and how she and the baby, plus subsequent granddaughter develop to become activists supporting the American Civil Rights Movement. Along the way there are romances, problems with drugs & unexpected storylines. A great listen - I shall be listening to more stories about the sisters!

Not the best of this series

If this had been the first book in the series I would not have continued with the rest of the books although the African side of the story was particularly interesting.

Best so far

I’ve either read or listened to all the earlier books in the Sister series and I think this is the best.

charming

I really liked this, I started the series with this book as I didn't realise it was part of a series immediately however I didn't feel like I had to listen to them in order either and that's credit to the writing. I really felt relaxed listening and enjoyed the story. Definitely worth a go

Outstanding

So enjoyed this book. The whole series is absolute wonderful . 2 more to go - as much as I’m looking forward to listening to them, I’m also dreading the story coming to an end.

Awesome

An awesome climax to another book in the Seven Sisters series. It has everything we have come to expect from this great author who just keeps getting better and better. From joy to despair and everything in-between. I'm sure you won't be disappointed.
