About this listen

My family said he killed my mother. They lied....

I was just a little girl, fast asleep in my stroller, the day my mother was killed. I don’t remember anything about the sunny day that turned so dark.

She’d be so happy for me now, 20 years later, with my dream job as a photographer, and I’m sure she’d love my new boyfriend, Gabriel. But all my happiness vanishes in a heartbeat when the man from our past walks toward me, his eyes on me for just a fraction too long.

I recognize his face from the picture in the papers. He killed my mother.

I try to run, but he wants me to listen. He says that he is innocent and that my family has been lying to me for years.

My father and sister tell me to stay away. They remind me that because of him my mother never got to tuck me in at night or ease me through my first heartbreak. Gabriel says he could be dangerous. But when he is found dead, I am shaken to my core. Who needed to keep him quiet?

I won’t feel safe until I find out what he wanted to tell me. But when I find that my father has lied about the past and Gabriel has hidden photos of my mother under his bed, I realize I can’t trust anyone. I want the truth. But if I find it, will my life be in danger?

An absolutely addictive listen that will have you questioning everything you thought you knew about your family. Perfect for fans of The Girl on the Train, Lisa Jewell, and Shari Lapena.

"OMG, loved! I couldn’t put this down for the life of me. I had to find out what was going to happen next otherwise I would have never gotten any sleep that night.... It had everything that I look for in a great book...it had a shocking ending I never saw coming. I couldn’t ask for a better book.... [I]t was fun finding out all those secrets." (Blue Moon Blogger)

Laid back listen

Took a while to get into and wasn’t a real page turner but was quite easy to listen to and the second half when you’ve got an idea about where it was heading wasn’t more gripping. Not sure why Laurie didn’t tell on Danny early on though. No plausible reason for this really…

She’s done it again!! ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

This is the third book on the trot from this author. I am an avid audio book listener and I have loved every one so far. Always a terrific story, where the ending can’t be guessed. I’m going to download another now!!

Easy listening but nothing special

This gets a bit far-fetched and the men, in particular, are all pretty unlikeable. The narration is fine but the characters all sound quite dowdy. That said, it is an easy listen.

I loved it

Although the story was obvious in places it was a very addictive read. Lots to keep you invested.

Ok story, worth a listen but a little to obvious

Ok story. Read brilliantly. Frustrating at times ad character needed more common sense but genuinely an ok read, I could have finished 1/2 way through and guessed ending

Like it

Why she didn't tell him she was pregnant? His reaction would have ended this more fantastic.

the power of deceit

I was hooked from the beginning and couldn't stop listening. what a story - covers love, hate, lies, relationships, manipulation, revenge, mistrust, tragic loss, mystery and, above all, deceit and the reasons people find to excuse it. thought provoking. is everyone capable of killing? what would I do in that situation? good narration.

I was surprised

I like psychological thrillers, but don’t think many of them really deserve the raving reviews that talk about lots of twists and turns and an ending you don’t see coming. I tend to predict most of them. A few of the twists and turns in this book I did see coming, but not all of them. But I didn’t guess the ending, neither the main ending nor the last few sentences. I enjoyed the quality of the writing, the story, the characters and the narration. 😊

Lazy and slow

The story had potential, but it fell short. The writing was very lazy - incredibly repetitive and with several plot holes. Felt like the author was on autopilot and in a rush. The scenes were long and drawn out and suddenly quickly cut short, making no sense. When people say it was slow - they’re not kidding. I think this was her worst book yet… :/
