About this listen

Suffering from writer's block, novelist Rachel Ames escapes to a lake cabin to calm her mind and regain a sense of herself. The location is perfect. Isolated. Beautiful. Inspiring. It even comes with a good-looking landlord who shows an interest in her. But she can't shake the sense that something terrible has followed her to the lake, something just beyond her consciousness, something out on the edge where the sounds of a raging fire and sirens linger whenever she slows down to listen. Determined to make the cabin work, she tries to settle in and give her new life a chance. But when strange things begin to happen around her, she wonders if she's made a terrible mistake. As the darkness that's followed her manifests itself in inexplicable ways, her concept of reality is stretched thin and she realizes nothing at the lake is what it seems. As she fights to survive with her sanity intact, she understands too late that the location she's chosen for herself is far from perfect.

Interesting short story, worth a listen, I think it much of it could be classified as absurdism? Well narrated.

Enjoyed it

I wasn't sure what I expected, but I was not prepared for this. Very good writing. Very good story.

You feel the torment from start to finish. Nicely crafted story that runs the line between truth and untruth!

I enjoyed this title from start to finish, it was a great novel with a very deep and emotion filled story.
I would definitely recommend giving it a read.

I was very impressed, I do not usually go for short stories as the story usually feels rushed and too missing key info....but this book!....I shall now be more open to shorter stories, this was fab! very much enjoyed the twists and turns of this book, the story was well thought out and very well put together...I kept looking to see how long was left as there were such good parts you thought was the end, but it was thrilling, I actually really enjoyed it. I hope the author continues in this fashion...

didn't see that coming, even better!

It wasnt until the last hour ish that this book really captured me. When that happened I wouldnt have been able to stop listening even if I wanted to. But its a good thing that it was a fairly short story, otherwise I would've probably given up on it.
I will say however that it did have a very satisfying end, something that books of this genre tend to really struggle with.

A bit slow

loved this book, just enough weirdness to make you question reality. Even the unlikable characters have an odd charm to them, very satisfying.

Thoroughly enjoyable.

not bad but not the best or most interesting. Plot was a bit see through from halfway along but not a bad little story.
