A quick and well written read.
The wards bride is the first foray into Mecca’s Border series. The location is unique and interesting; along the medieval Scottish/English border.
Cora is to be married off to an Englishman in order to continue peace along the border. Adam wants to prove his worth to his overlord the Earl of Kenshire and will do anything, including marrying a stranger from Scotland.
The accent’s weren’t quite right for me, a hero who grew up in Northumbria wouldn’t sound so southern, even if he did live in the south more recently. The heroine’s Scots accent is good, but I don’t think the border accent is that soft.

Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?
Yes definitely. This was an absolutely wonderful story, with fabulous wit and sass from our heroine being met with charm and patience from Adam. Their marriage wasn't from choice, and they certainly have some obstacles to overcome, but hearing about them, and if they can get past those obstacles was a real delight. There were some very funny moments that kept the book light despite some of the more serious moments. Considering this was only a novella, I think the characters had depth, and the storyline was exciting and made me want to listen straight through to find out how it ends. I wasn't disappointed at all.What did you like best about this story?
I liked that was never a dull moment to this story, and that there was more than just romance to keep it exciting. Keeping the peace between Scotland and England is the whole reason why the betrothal has to take place in the first place.What does Benedict Waring bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you had only read the book?
The performance for the most part was impressive. Benedict excelled at the male character voices, especially when they were giving impassioned speeches. He did a decent job of the female voices, and at times our heroine's voice was really good. On other occasions she sounded a little like Mrs Doubtfire! Similar can be said for the hero's voice, mostly his voice was good, especially when he had intimate moments with our heroine, but on times he did sound a little 'camp'. Although not perfect, the narration was enjoyable to listen to, and it was nice to have a little smile now and then when I found the character's voices a little inconsistent at times. I definitely wouldn't have any qualms listening to more books narrated by him. He is only new to narrating, so given time he will be perfect. Listening to him reading this book brings the story to life, moreso than reading it, or watching it if it were on TV. Having it read gives the characters voices, but in my own head I can picture them exactly as I think they should be.Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?
Yes, and it was easliy done as this is a novella length story. If it were longer though, I would still want to listen to it all in one go because Cecelia Mecca's stories are captivating from the first word to the last.Superb, Exciting, Passion filled Read.
