About this listen
An audiobook of deep wisdom, gleaned from a quarter of a century spent trying to master the intricacies of the Japanese Tea Ceremony.
For more than 25 years Noriko Morishita has studied and practised the intricate rules of the famous Japanese Tea Ceremony, trying to master its complexities in order to find inner peace. In this vivid account of her experience of the universal trials and triumphs of adulthood, Morishita connects the core tenets of this ancient art with leading a fulfilling life, showing how we too may use mindfulness to achieve happiness.
In The Wisdom of Tea Noriko describes her gradual discovery of freedom and insight within the very rules that once seemed so constricting. Looking back across her life, Noriko illuminates the real teachings of the Way of Tea: to live absolutely in the moment, to notice and delight in the smallest of details, to embrace the vital skills of patience and perseverance and to allow yourself to be.

When I saw the title, an image popped into my mind- an elderly lady wearing simple kimono is sitting on the tatami floor and bowing deeply to the person in front of her. Maybe it's an image of Japanese tradition to a foreign eye. I was curious what kind of story this book will tell me. I tried the sample part, and I loved the performance of the narrator, how this book began. (Honestly, if the narrator's reading were not good, I would have stopped listening.)
I am so glad that I listened to the whole book. It's a heartfelt self-realisation journey of a person through tea: live in the moment with an eye to the future.
This book left me with warmth in my heart, gave me the wisdom of continuous practice and study. I immensely enjoyed the book. Love to hear more performance from Minhee Yeo!
Lovely story, beautifully read.
