Really enjoyed this, I gave read Laura Wilsons DI Stratton series which I loved but this is quite different and very intriguing.

This was quite original, and a good story. The relationship between mother and daughter could have been more involved, but overall very good listen

Very easy to get in to and the story rolled along at a good pace - not always going where you expected, showing how things can get so mixed up and misconstrued. Believable characters - some real prog rock/hippy throwbacks. Good narrative on the way things were back then and the way they must seem to the younger generation now.

Laura Wilson couldn't write Stratton books for ever (sadly) and no this book doesn't really quite live up to that series. It does however have a cast of very strongly written characters and for anyone - like me - who was part of the hippy scene back in the 60's this really does conjure up those days admirably. I thought it also very sensitively showed how perhaps our generation struggles with growing older. This is well read by Anna Bentinck but the threads of the story do stray off somewhat and I think could have been rather more neatly explained and tied up. There is no doubt however that once you start listening you won't want to stop - and therefore despite the flaws this is a solid 4 star listen I think.

This story was just very slow to get going and never really got off the ground for me I’m afraid. The plot twists were all clearly signposted and I was waiting for another one at the end, but it never came. Not one of my favourite listens.

A novel that truly encompasses the results of our actions and the actions of those around us- whatever their motivation. Sensitively written, beautiful prose and realistic feeling. Read gorgeously by Anna Bentinck who I now actively LOOK for as a narrator- her voice is pitch perfect and she can perform any age, sex , class or region with great skill. I really love her voice. More please Laura and more please Anna!!!

I had planned to only listen to this book when taking the dogs out. It took a couple of attempts to get into it but once it did I was hooked and I listened to it in great chunks over a couple of days. Good plot, interesting characters and very well narrated by Anna Bentinck. Another excellent Laura Wilson book!

I had just finished and enjoyed the author's DI Ted Stanton series and had high hope for this later novel. Oh dear! It's not nearly as good. Padded out with too descriptions of over-wrought emotions and far to may similes. I don't need to know repeatedly that something is 'like' something else. The story is slow to get going and digresses into superfluous material such as a long emotionally-charged scene over the identity of a child that a simple DNA test would have cleared up. The book is not helped by the narrator who delivers, particularly Janice's dialogue, in a staccato, pressurized style that becomes tiresome. Many of the characters are made to seem annoyed or irritable. I'm disappointed. I'd assumed when listening that this was an earlier book by the author and that by the time of writing Stanton series has honed herwriting style so am surprised that it came after. I won't be pursuing further books.
