About this listen
Drawing from reams of historical data, laboratory experiments, field research, and eyewitness accounts, this comprehensive guide is the only book you'll need to face the greatest challenge mankind has ever encountered. Granted, you probably already know that skills such as wilderness survival, leadership, and basic first aid are important when fighting off hordes of the undead.
But The Zombie Survival Guide doesn't stop there, teaching you how to: Identify cases of infection by the zombie virus, Solanum, and recognise the hourly progression of symptoms: 'Hour 8: Numbing of Extremities and Infected Area, Increased Fever [103-106 Degrees], Increased Dementia, Loss of Muscular Coordination'; choose the right weapon: 'A Section of Lead Pipe Will Work for a Single Encounter but Is Too Heavy for Those on the Move'; defend your home: 'A Ten-Foot Cinder-Block Wall, Reinforced with Steel Rods and Filled with Concrete, Is the Safest Barrier in Both Class 1 and Class 2 Outbreaks'; and much more.
The Zombie Survival Guide is the only guide you will need to survive a most certain pandemic.
"Ignorance is the undead's strongest ally, knowledge their deadliest enemy," Brooks writes. "Personal choice, the will to live, must be paramount when the dead begin to rise. The choice is up to you."

Almost too believable
Max Brooks writes this guide in a straight a fashion as could ever be imagined. He give credibility to the possibility of a zombie virus and offers practical advice on how to deal with it.
It is so well thought out and described in intimate detail that you cannot help but be chilled to the bone.
A wonderful piece of fiction...or is it?

Great companion to world war z
I was a bit put off by some other reviews but i greatly enjoyed the book.
The narrator pulled of the dry wit and authoritative manner of an instructional manual.
There isnt a plot to be found but if you've ever daydreamed about having a zombie plan then this might be a fit for you, it goes into great detail about pros and cons of certain approaches and feels authentic.
Maybe too dry for some but i geeked out the whole time and now im ready to take on the undead and survive.

Not bad listen
World War Z book is definitely more compelling. I finished it and went onto this, but needn’t have bothered.
It’s delivery feels like something a tweed clad lecturer might present to a student hall, which is an interesting idea and works quite well.
The contents, however feels a little like flogging a pony.

not a natural audio book
I love the concept of the book as a zombie apocalypse instruction manual but it dosent work well as an audio book. Listening to it can be a bit of a struggle as the narration can be a bit dry and as it's written to instruct you it can be a bit hard going to listen to for any length of time. It's what I call a toilet book, something you can dip in and out of for a short period of time. Not so good for your long trip to work. Buy the physical book, it's great but don't rush to by the audio version.

Interesting but outlasts its welcome.
Would you try another book written by Max Brooks or narrated by Stephen Hogan?
I do not think there was any problem with the narration, it is just that the book is more like reading an instruction manual and can be very dry going at points.
What could Max Brooks have done to make this a more enjoyable book for you?
Inter spliced some of the 'after action reports' within the instruction section of the book.
What did you like about the performance? What did you dislike?
No problem with the performance, it was more likely the nature of the book that does not work as well as a traditional work of fiction when it comes to enjoying an audiobook.
If this book were a film would you go see it?
I can't imagine how this would work, but if they did I would see it out of interest.
Any additional comments?
Interesting and has many 'wow I didn't think of that' moments. However, the entire book is just a little dry and emotionless to be a truly enjoyable listen.

Average
I found that I could not finish the book, I found it very bland and senseless, but I had expected so, it is a Guide after all: no story, no new or interesting concepts, just a guide.
Narration is also average.
Enjoy
