About this listen

Chief Inspector Macdonald has been invited to a treasure hunt party at the house of the Graham Coombe, the celebrated publisher of Murder by Mesmerism. The clues of the hunt have been devised by Coombe's thriller-writer friends, disguised on the night under literary pseudonyms. I enjoyed the narrator, who was excellent. The story is fun, and one I hadn't cone across before.

Rather more contrived than some Lorac, being in the murder in the country house variety (although not country), but well-conceived, tightly-written and satisfying.

Needs thought

Over complicated plot , delivered in a shouty staccato manner by a narrator who has the habit of not being able to pronounce the letter T , so many narrators these days seem to think that it’s fashionable to mispronounce the English language.

For reasons that are unclear to me the narrator has decided to scream talk from the point early in the book where the characters are just calmly talking clues. It's stressful to listen to.
