About this listen

Brought to you by Penguin.

It starts quietly enough. A tick-tick-ticking you can hear in your ear. Tinnitus, you think. It will pass. But it doesn't. It gets worse—and then you pass it on.

Before you know it, it spreads. Elsewhere across the globe, it emerges: small outbreaks at first, but then suddenly it's a plague—and only days later it is already killing people.

In an increasingly affected north London school, teacher Kit Chaplin is struggling to understand what he is witnessing. Even Lilly Slater, his partner and an eminent vaccinologist, can't work out what's happening. As it spreads, little by little, they are inexorably drawn into the mystery behind the illness. And what they discover will change the world as they know it....

Exciting and urgently contemporary, this piercingly insightful novel tells the story of a global catastrophe through the eyes of the three people at the heart of the storm.

Interesting

Interesting read
Again makes you question humanity and the chaos that is sort of happening in the world

Simon Mayo has a dark and twisted mind

This was so much better than expected - could not stop listening. It is based in a post Covid world where the unthinkable occurs. Fabulous characters that draw you in so you root for them. From a DJ to an awesome author - amazing Simon Mayo xx

interesting storyline....

I enjoyed the way this storyline brings in so much recent history with a wiring possible outbreak.

I've never done this before..

I found this rather tedious and the number of 'he said' 'she said' lines drove me a bit mad. When I was two hours from the end I did something I've not done before, I increased the speed. I wanted to know what happened, but not enough to listen on normal speed.
If anyone ever comes across a more protracted injection scene I'd like to know about it. Actually, maybe not.

Ok but not great

Wanted a little more jeopardy for me if I’m honest. Didn’t feel much at all yet given the story I should have. Wouldn’t put you off buying it though. Enjoyed it.

Riveting.

One of those stories that you want to listen to in one go. I hadn’t come across this author before but I’ll definitely be looking out for more. It’s a very well told and scary story, which seems all too plausible in the current state of the world. The narrator was excellent except when it came to Scottish accents, which sounded more ‘begorah’ Irish.

Interesting & current

I listened with interest & enjoyment. The narration was by & large pretty good & the storyline kept me wanting more.

I loved the pace, the story, the characters, and the narration. Listened to it in two days!

Great story, Questionable narration.

Tick Tock is a well constructed book with a great storyline. The opening sets the scene well, and draws you in. However early on, I did start to wonder if I would have enjoyed the physical book more due to the narrator. His performance of female characters, particularly younger ones, was at times, a challenge to listen to. .
