About this listen

She was born in darkness, under the shadow of a full moon during a solar eclipse with a mysterious black dagger at her side. As a child, Olivia James witnessed her mother’s gruesome murder. As an adult, her godfather has trained her to be a skilled fighter. But when Olivia’s boyfriend betrays her and threatens her life, setting off a string of events that catapults her back in time from 21st-century Seattle into third-century Rome, the secrets of her past begin to unravel.

The discovery that she is a Timeborne, one with the ability to travel across time, is just the beginning. Soon, Olivia finds herself under the protection of—and owned by—Roman Alexander, a former gladiator and bodyguard to the emperor. Torn between his duty to his emperor, a desire for vengeance, and a longing to search for his lost twin brother, Roman now has the added complication of protecting this strange woman from the depravity of ancient Rome. Worse, he finds himself falling for her, despite accusations that she is an enemy spy. But even Roman is no match for the dark shadow that has pursued Olivia into the past.

A fighter in her own right, she’s forced to work with Roman to find a way back to her own time. Do the ancient scriptures on her dagger hold the key? Can she trust Roman with her secrets? And can she fight her enemies and protect her heart at the same time?

Timeborne is the first book in the Blade of Shadows series.

Good story,
However I think everything moved too fast.
The plot developed very quickly towards the end

Wow, what a debut. This book was so good. It was full of action and suspense from the very beginning of the book.

Olivia is such a good character. She is strong and can take care of herself, and after finding out she is a timeborne and being transported to ancient Rome, this definitely comes in handy!!

Roman is the perfect grumpy MMC but we soon discover that he has been harbouring some major feelings for Olivia and will do anything to protect her, even after Olivia discovers that he is hiding a major secret.

Olivia and Roman are 🔥 their connection was instant and only grew the more time they spent with each other.

I am so excited to jump straight into book 2 and hopefully discover some answers to the mysteries we uncovered in book 1

absolutely amazing debut

The story is great and keeps you hooked with a badass FMC, Sarah’s performance is brilliant but any time the male narrator started I would almost want to stop listening, I’ve heard more personality and passion from a plank of wood, its a shame as I found for me it really detracts from the story.

Great story but the Male voice actor….

This was my first DNF book ever. I'm sorry. I don't know if the story got better, I assume from the reviews that it must have so maybe I'll buy the physical book or ebook but I just wasn't feeling the male narrators voice. It just felt off compared to the female narrator.

When I asked to listen to an audio arc of Timeborne I was really excited. I love time travel and ancient Rome.
The story started off strong, some mystery surrounding time travel and if the main character actually believed it was possible. But then she travelled to ancient Rome without hardly any knowledge of how to do it, and she hardly questions how it happened or how to get back. I found her to be annoying aswell.
I found it weird that the MMC was called Roman because of the setting. I wanted more of the time we were in, Ancient Rome is a fascinating place but I felt there was no real effect on the author's part to make us feel like we were in Ancient Rome.
I didn't really feel the connection between the MMC and FMC.
But there was definitely something about this book that kept me reading. It was a fast paced read that revolved around the romance elements more than the fantasy elements of the story. I enjoyed it enough to plow through it to want answers to my questions, some were answered, most were not. I will definitely be wanting to read the other books in the series. I need answers especially with that ending.

I enjoyed it

Story has an interesting concept.
Felt very much like it was written by someone very young. Quite cringy in places.

Good idea. Felt juvenile

The plot is great but the performance of the narrators disappointing. They sound to me like robots or AI reading 🤷🏼‍♀️

Surprised

Made it through seven chapters but the male narrator is so bad that it completely distracts from the story. I feel like it could have been a decent listen but there is no way I can cope with his awful narration! It sounded like he was reading the news! Gave the male character zero personality. Such a shame as the female narrator was absolutely fine.

I’m annoyed at myself for not reading the reviews first!! What a waste of money.

Couldn’t bear the male narrator!

This is bad, I wish I hadn’t paid for this book. Does Audible do refunds?

This is bad, I would like my money back

Olivia, the strong female lead with a softer side. She's thrown into the unknown, working to unravel the mysteries that plague her.

Roman, the protector and lover that we all wished we had. Pushing Olivia to be all she can be.

From enemies to lovers.

The plot, the characters and the twists and turns this book takes had me hooked from the 1st chapter!

Highly recommend this to anyone who wants to be taken on a journey and have each chapter leaving you wanting more!!

Can't wait to start the 2nd book!! ❤️

loved loved loved it!! totally hooked!!
