About this listen
Now the Internet has eliminated the barriers of geography, cost, and time. All those blogs and social networking sites are helping existing tribes get bigger. But more important, they're enabling countless new tribes to be born - groups of ten or ten thousand or ten million who care about their iPhones, or a political campaign, or a new way to fight global warming.
And so the key question: Who is going to lead us?
The Web can do amazing things, but it can't provide leadership. That still has to come from individuals - people just like you who have a passion about something. The explosion in tribes means that anyone who wants to make a difference now has the tools at her fingertips.
If you think leadership is for other people, think again - leaders come in surprising packages. Consider Joel Spolsky and his international tribe of scary-smart software engineers. Or Gary Vaynerhuck, a wine expert with a devoted following of enthusiasts. Chris Sharma leads a tribe of rock climbers up impossible cliff faces, while Mich Mathews, a VP at Microsoft, runs her internal tribe of marketers from her cube in Seattle. All they have in common is the desire to change things, the ability to connect a tribe, and the willingness to lead.
If you ignore this opportunity, you risk turning into a "sheepwalker" - someone who fights to protect the status quo at all costs, never asking if obedience is doing you (or your organization) any good. Sheepwalkers don't do very well these days.
Tribes will make you think (really think) about the opportunities in leading your fellow employees, customers, investors, believers, hobbyists, or readers....It's not easy, but it's easier than you think.

Seth Godin gives me permission to be brave!
At a time when I am deciding whether to stay in my well paid comfortable job or go out on my own following my passions - Seths words have injected enough belief and confidence in myself not to be swayed by the status quo of popular opinion! I'm going for it! Thank you Seth

Start them drums!
A great book. Provocative and erudite in Seth's inimitable way. Highly tweetable... (Though he calls Tweets, twits!). Found myself scribbling many notes. Now I'm going to start it over and make some more.

Tremendous
What did you like most about Tribes?
Godin makes it very clear what won't work, what will, and distils the necessity of leading.
I'd recommend his blog first if you're not convinced enough to buy. And if you're not convinced because you think it's not long enough (value for money), consider it like a single malt whisky. It'll age well, it's not dilute, and it's invaluable.

Never get influenced by unsuccessful whiners
I've postponed buying this amazing book for a while because all these worthless bad reviews from poor complainers with a scarcity mindset, even though more than one successful people recommended it.
So never decide based on this kind of reviews and always look for recommendations only from really successful people!

Unique and bold perspective on leadership
Gives a unique and bold perspective on leadership. If you've got it, do not be afraid to take a stand and go for it. Your tribe is waiting.

I'll follow this book...mostly
I good insight into leadership. Very ambitious yet simple. I mostly agree with the guys philosophy over ideals & innovation, however at times it can be a 'one size fits all' and no plan B approach.
Overall the passion and enthusiasm of the author is the books greatest strength. I took a lot from his examples but will not take away everything as gospel.

Could be a blog post
I usually love Seth Godwin, but this book was a bit of a disappointment. Well written as always, but with really just one take away, start leading. The book doesn’t give any specific advice, in fact Seth points out that you need to do something different and not follow the status quo, so he can’t tell you what to do.
I would recommend Seth’s other work before this one. It could have been much shorter, like The Dip, which I would recommend over this book.

I loved it! Book is filled with new knowledge
I loved this book. Seth provided some very clear and compelling description of leadership in the Internet enabled age and what makes one a remarkable leader. This book is recommended for anyone who wishes to lead large or small tribes and create change in the Internet age and traditionally. I put this book on the same rating as Peter Thiel's zero to One.
