About this listen
In an instant, everything stops. No lights. No phones. No transportation.
When coordinated EMP and Cyber attacks wipe out the nation’s power grid and communications, ultra-marathon runner, Maddie Langston, is forced to run for her life.
Stranded in a Chicago airport when the lights go out, Maddie is in a race against time. According to her father, she doesn’t have long before the city descends into chaos. She must leave the airport before it is too late.
Although she knows she must flee the Windy City, Maddie’s first battle is to overcome her fear of the violence she knows is coming. She’s a fighter; she just doesn’t know it yet.
The perilous journey out of the city becomes even more difficult when Maddie takes responsibility for an orphaned 10-year-old girl. Together, as chaos fills the streets, they must fight to survive in a turbulent new world.
Would you have what it takes to survive?
This heart-stopping, post-apocalyptic thriller is the first book in T. L. Payne's Days of Want Series. Look for Hunted Days of Want Series, book two, June 2019.
For lovers of books by Jack Hunt, Bobby Akart, Kyla Stone, Chris Pike, Ryan Westfield, Harley Tate, and Mike Sheridan.

A lot of potential
I requested a copy of this book to review. The setting is quite unique, the story interesting, and the narrator is good. You follow a family whose two children are traveling in different cities at the start of the book and who have to try and make their way home against the odds. My criticism would be that the end of the world felt rather rushed. This could partiality be due to the fact that this is the first book in a new series, but there were a lot of things happening that the author just seemed to consider normal with no need to explain. People immediately descended to looting and killing within hours of the power going out with no apparently reason. The main characters were also not only fully prepared for the end of the world but recognized the signs for this precise scenario. However, I did enjoy it and would like to continue the series to see where it leads as it has a lot of potential.

I'm Hooked, A Great Apocalypse Story.
What would people do if the unthinkable happened? That’s what TL Payne tries to answer with this book about an EMP attack over the United States. Unlike a lot of apocalypse stories that focus on one character, or one group, this one covers many people in different situations including those in authority. I enjoyed this take on things and it was interesting to see how their decisions affected people ‘on the street’. Things deteriorate very quickly for those people ‘on the street’ and we follow Maddie as she tries to find her way back to her family. The bad guys seem to arrive en masse testing the training Maddie has been given by her late father who was a ‘prepper’. He was certain something like this would happen one day and taught his children to be ready. This is a very clever way for the author to give the character the required skills for surviving without it being by pure luck. Things certainly don’t always go well for her but I won't elaborate on that for fear of spoiling the story. As the first part of a series there are some hints that there is more to learn about what has happened. There’s no jarring cliffhanger at the end though which I was grateful for. I’m hooked and I will definitely be reading Hunted, book two of the series, very soon.
Kevin Pierces narration is wonderful his deep rich voice adds weight to the story. He brings the characters to life with seeming effortless ease as if he’s chatting away to close friends. He conveys the tension the characters experience very well, bringing the story to life. Great story and a first class narration.

A pure fight for survival
Firstly I would like to say that I was initially drawn to the book by its cover . Its impactful and eye catching and intrigued me immensely. I loved the character of Maddie for her strength, determination and resourcefulness. For once a relatable female character that has the primal instinct to just survive. It is worrying that with the position the world is currently in with political unrest such an occurrence could happen in reality. It makes the reader evaluate whether they are prepared for such an eventuality. i was given this book by the author/narrator in return for an honest and unbiased review
