About this listen
In Stephen King's mesmerizing new masterpiece - his biggest, most riveting novel since The Stand - a Maine town and its inhabitants are isolated from the world by an invisible, impenetrable dome.
Celebrated storyteller Stephen King returns to his roots in this tour de force, featuring more than 100 characters - some heroic, some diabolical - and a supernatural element as baffling and chilling as any he's ever conjured.
On an entirely normal, beautiful fall day in Chester's Mills, Maine, the town is inexplicably and suddenly sealed off from the rest of the world by an invisible force field. Planes crash into it and fall from the sky in flaming wreckage, a gardener's hand is severed as "the Dome" comes down on it, people running errands in the neighboring town are divided from their families, and cars explode on impact. No one can fathom what this barrier is, where it came from, and when - or if - it will go away.
Dale Barbara, Iraq vet and now a short-order cook, finds himself teamed with a few intrepid citizens - town newspaper owner Julia Shumway, a physician's assistant at the hospital, a selectwoman, and three brave kids. Against them stands Big Jim Rennie, a politician who will stop at nothing - even murder - to hold the reins of power, and his son, who is keeping a horrible secret in a dark pantry.
But their main adversary is the Dome itself. Because time isn't just short. It's running out.
With some of the most spectacularly sinister characters King has ever imagined and a driving plot, Under the Dome is Stephen King at his epic best. This book will thrill every listener who's ever loved a novel by King.

Stupid idea so how come it's great?
I don't get it, the whole premise seems dumb, an impenetrable dome that encloses an entire town seemingly picked at random. Any other author and I'd have stopped reading at the blurb stage. But this is Stephen King, the guy that gave us The Stand so reading the other reviews I started this long book with some trepidation.
Thirty-odd hours of listening later and I can say without a doubt that King is one of the master story tellers. He had me believing in it, he gave me an epic story with the usual broad range of characters and much to my delight I bought into how he tied everything off at the end.
Simply put, if you like Stephen King books like The Stand but are put off by the book's premise you should not worry. He makes it work!

Caution this product can interrupt your life
Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?
Yes if they haven't read the book or seen the TV series, but if hooked still worth the listen to get the extra dimension and nuances. One of Stephen KIng's blockbusters so the story is long and has several twists. Also an allegory for USA and the values of indviduals and the human condition.
What was one of the most memorable moments of Under the Dome?
Don't want to spoil the story, but the dome coming down at the beginning is very vividly described and hints at rather than heavily or clumsily tells of the menace it represents.
Have you listened to any of Raul Esparza’s other performances? How does this one compare?
No, but very impressed in the consistency over more than 34 hours and the different voices and accents conveying the characters and their emotions and backgrounds. Makes it easy to immediately grasp the location and personae involved in this complex story with a large cast of characters and locations.
Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?
YES! But this is impossible as >34 hours long so impossible as daily functions necessary. I was on holiday and it lasted over four days and drew complaints from my wife that I was ignoring her.
Any additional comments?
Very good value for money and the audible version may enhance the story experience as the relevance of Yankee versus others was illustrated.

Different from the TV Series.
If you could sum up Under the Dome in three words, what would they be?
Frightening, sinister and unnerving
What did you like best about this story?
Character interaction and manipulation.
Have you listened to any of Raul Esparza’s other performances? How does this one compare?
I haven't listened to any other readings by Raul Esparza but I would definitely make a point of looking out for his other performances.
Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?
Yes, but due to it's length it was impossible. I think it took me a week to complete it.
Any additional comments?
Don't expect it t be like the TV series, this is much, much better.

Under the Dome - really worth a listen
For some reason, I let this book sit in my library. When I finally listened to it, I was amazed at how good it is. Great narrator and the different voices were done with excellent accents and tembre. Absolutely brilliant plot but who could expect anything else from The King? It explores what happens when a small town is cut off from the rest of the world, in great detail. You will have met some of these people. The ending (and explanation) was a bit weird but plausible, if you put it in context. Definitely recommend.

Excellent book
I loved this book. Even though it is quite long, its still full of intrigue all the way through. I wasn't sure about the narrator to start with, but got used to him quickly and thought he was right for the story.

Perservere with this - it's worth it
It took me sometime to get into this book after the initial couple of hours of the storyline. But the further I got in and started to develop a better understanding of the characters involved, their relationships with each other and the way the townspeople were divided with their loyalties the more engrossed I became.
The twists and turns in the story kept me involved and some of the events that occurred were certainly not expected.
Another Stephen King masterpiece!

Boy do I hate Big Jim Rennie!
If you could sum up Under the Dome in three words, what would they be?
A true microcosm
What other book might you compare Under the Dome to, and why?
The Stand. It's huge scope, the similarity of some characters and vast character list.
Which scene did you most enjoy?
The ending but all of it was very good
Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?
35hrs are you kidding! But I got through it in a good few days
Any additional comments?
Big Jim Rennie is an absolutely horrible creation, one of Stephen King's best 'villians' and amazingly written. Part of what made me carry on (which wasn't hard, it's a very good book) was wanting to see what happened to Rennie and if he got justice.
