About this listen

The first book in the best-selling series that has garnered over a million fans across the globe. Retired homicide detective Thomas Prescott is reluctant to read the bestselling true-crime thriller, Eight in October. After all, it was his case, and he doesn’t need to be reminded of the gruesome details. The book dubbed the serial killer, Tristen Grayer, The MAINEiac. Grayer is allegedly dead, but only Prescott knows the truth: Grayer is alive and lurking in the shadows. On October 1st, the anniversary of the first murder, The MAINEiac resurfaces, killing someone special from Prescott’s past. Suddenly, it’s déjà vu for Prescott, except this time the women closest to him begin to fall victim. With the help of his former flame, Bangor chief medical examiner, Dr. Caitlin Dodds, Prescott must race against the clock to stop Grayer from completing his encore.

An otherwise engaging story was unnecessarily full of lazy sexual innuendo. I finished the book but was disappointed with it.

Disappointing

Firstly, the writing style is good - the self-deprecating asides by the "hero" are very funny. There's unnecessary gory details at some points which kill the enjoyment a bit but I think that's a deliberate juxtaposition.

However, the characters (including our hero) are all idiots and behave in totally unrealistic ways / reach absurd (and incorrect) conclusions and are generally unrelatable. I'm not keen on books where I'm routing for the bad guy to kill off the t**t main character.

In real life, a*** hole mysogynistic cops are not effective, they're the ones who get uncovered for sex crimes. In this book, that's the profile of a good detective and all the women throw themselves at him.

I won't bother with this author again.

Mysogynistic, inept and unlikeable main character

I found it a good entertaining book . Enjoyed the storyline. I found the main character funny . Going to look for this author again

Really good

What a plot. Twists and action all the way. The descriptions had me laughing so much my husband couldn’t sleep, I usually read in bed. The humour is a great counter point to the gore. Loved it.

Excellent book

Tried this as part of the free books. So very impressive, really well narrated, great story line, I'm currently downloading all the others in the Thomas Prescott series.

Great Yarn, amazing narrator and dialogue

Bad reading of the book, hard to understand sometimes. Better pronounciation should be very welcome .

Improbable story.

Despite all the negative reviews about blatant misogyny decided to give Unforeseen, Nick Pirog's debut novel ago & was pleasantly surprised, not offended or shocked as many of my gender have been.
Okay there's sexual innuendo & wisecracks aplenty but found them written in such a manner I had to laugh @ them. There's also a narcoleptic pug dog called Baxter, a psycho serial killer & a race against time that makes for a chilling, well plotted thriller.
The crimes are gruesome, and maybe my sense of humour is odd but overall I enjoyed it, won't hesitate to listen to subsequent Thomas Prescott book

Surprisingly funny!

I would’ve enjoyed this fast-paced crime story if it hadn’t been for the terrible misogyny of the protagonist. Ruined it. There is no excuse for implying such behaviour is fine by making it a large part of the central character’s personality. It jars, it’s lazy, it’s unrealistic, it’s poor writing and it’s very old-fashioned. Gross.

Totally spoiled by ugly misogyny. Very old-fashioned.

This is the biggest load of rubbish I have ever started to read you’ve gotta be kidding me ,sailing for dummies what a laugh. Get real, and at least the author could have done a little research,

Please don’t insult our Intelligence and common sense I had to give it a star to submit my revie

Rubbish

The 'hero' is full of wisecracks and the constant sexual innuendos gets on the nerves after the second one. Skipped quite a large chunk of the book to find out whodunit, to finish the book!

Not my kind of book
